| My parents live in Key West. What do you want to know? It is a long ways down there, but worth it. |

| We went a couple of years back and stayed at a B&B. Had a great time wandering Duval St., going to Margaritaville, the Southern most point, Hemmingway house, and too many bars to count. Make sure at least once you get to Mallory Sq. for sunset. Yes, the drive is long from Miami and best done in daylight. We drove down and my daughter and her husband rented a motorcycle to ride down. Half way down she waved us over and got in the car. He rode the rest of the way alone. I would love to do it again.

| If you stay on the Atlantic side you have to cross the street to also get to the beach also the north end of the Gulf is the same way. I will ask them what they suggest. So far so good - no oil there yet. There is one really nice hotel on the Atlantic side that is on the beach. I think it is the Casa Marina. I will ask them to be sure. There is a lot of history about the island, be sure to take the Conch train to learn about it - Key West Conch Tour Train & Key West Attractions | Florida Keys Sightseeing Train Tours Hemingways home is there too. Lots of 6 toe cats. Be sure to go to the Dry Tortuga too (fort). You have to take a boat to it. Dry Tortugas National Park (U.S. National Park Service) And Mel Fisher's Treausre Museum Mel Fisher's Treasures My daughter just got back form her visit (visiting her grandparents) and she really liked the Museum! And there is a place there that make the best sandles - they last forever! Kinos - Sandals of Kino Sandals Key West Don't forget the pier at sunset!! Great artists perform. Pier is on the Gulf side. Are you driving down?? Long way. Be sure to stop mid way for a break. Okay - will get back to after I ask my parents about the hotel. I hope the above information has helped. |

| If you think it's a far drive from Miami, you should try driving there in an old RV from southern CA! We did that in 1987 and it took almost a week to get there! If you are driving, 7 mile bridge is not to be missed! (Actually, if you are driving down, it's not possible to miss it! LOL) On Key West, I have good memories of the giant shell shop. When I think about it know, it reminds me of Spongebob. More recently in 2001, Key West was our last port on a western Caribbean cruise. We went in early Nov and the weather was great!

| It is such a long drive, but so beautiful. We like to fly into Ft. Lauderdale and drive through the Keys, just to enjoy the islands and ocean. But we do fly out from Key West. Topknot, I bet your folks love, love, love living in Key West!

| Yes, they love it a lot! They go fishing almost everyday if conditions are right. They are there half the month and then up around Orlando for the other half of the month. He has lived down there a long time. I wish I could visit there more often, it is just so far away. It is like a totally different world down there. Have you seen Fantasy Fest down there yet?? |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I love ALL the Keys! We usually stay at a hostel called Everglades Hostel (they have a website) the night before we make the drive down if we're going all the way to KW. If you do a bit of research online you'll find a little "guide" that tells you all kinds of neat stuff about the trip down to KW at the differant mile markers. Each island has it's own little quirky things about it; the Key deer are NOT to be missed but you get the best interaction if you can be on the island around sunrise or sunset. You may find that instead of spending your whole vaca in KW you'll see more if you split your time between the lower Keys & the upper ones Whatever you decide to do, I also agree, Mallory Square at sunset is a wonderful show & fun time. It really all depends what you want to do as there's so much to enjoy.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | In my dreams ! I've always wanted to visit the Keys - you're all so lucky ! Made it to Naples - which is very nice but not in the same league as the keys - I've read alot about them and it sounds like a place I'd love to live |

| There is a great hotel at Islamorada. We use to visit there all the time when we lived in WPB. They have a salt water swimming pool. It's a great place to fish - deep water. You can rent a boat and the captain takes you out to fish with all the equipment. Did you know that the railway was built for rich WPB people to spend their summer in the Keys, cooler winds. The roofs of the older houses in Key West are built the design they are to catch rain water. My dad is pretty strict when it comes to using the water at his home down there. You have to get wet, then turn off the shower and soap up and then turn the water back on to rinse off and do it quick. I feel like the timer is running and do not want to be got with soap still on and no more water. LOL But it is a serious business. They are getting all new water pipes and sewer system down there. So if you see construction going on that is what it is. |

| I loveeeeeee Key West. We had so much fun when we went! Especially Mallory Square. It's nice to have some shrimp while watching the sun go down. Then when the sun finally does go down....we all clapped! LOL It's the little things that make us happy lol This is where we stayed. Coconut Beach Resort - Key West, Florida - Welcome At the time most of the people there owned timeshare and they would rent out the other units as a hotel room. It's right on the water...and its the beachy side.
