we've vacationed in Key west a couple of times and had a great time although the time we did New Year's, it was the coldest on record.

We had several layers on as we had flown in from a spending a week in California visiting family so we didn't have "winter" clothes. I think we stayed at Casa Marina-very nice hotel. When we got into our room, we could see our breath! Hubby called down to the front desk and said that something was wrong with the thermostat as he couldn't get the heat to come on--they don't have heat! lol

We rented just about everything you could as far as transportation, lol. The electric cars, a real rental car, motor scooters and then we traveled on the buses. We had a blast as it was our first vacation in about 5 years.

We've had a blast everytime we've been. You'll have a great time.

Don't forget the pier at sunset!! Great artists perform. Pier is on the Gulf side.

Are you driving down?? Long way. Be sure to stop mid way for a break.

We got to go there only for a few short hours as a cruise stop and it was awesome! I love that place and best key lime pie ever! Seriously the kind of stuff dreams are made of, lol

We went to several museums and a butterfly sanctually/house, it was really pretty. But seriously you have to get some key lime pie... they're famous there, lol

You can order the juice by mail and make your own pie. The recipe is on the side of the bottle. Sometimes you can find the juice in your grocery stores.

You can also buy the juice from Kroger and Publix. I have made several authentic Key Lime pies using their recipe.

The last two were for July 4th!

Did you know that the railway was built for rich WPB people to spend their summer in the Keys, cooler winds.
The roofs of the older houses in Key West are built the design they are to catch rain water. My dad is pretty strict when it comes to using the water at his home down there. You have to get wet, then turn off the shower and soap up and then turn the water back on to rinse off and do it quick. I feel like the timer is running and do not want to be got with soap still on and no more water. LOL But it is a serious business. They are getting all new water pipes and sewer system down there. So if you see construction going on that is what it is.

This is where we stayed. Coconut Beach Resort - Key West, Florida - Welcome At the time most of the people there owned timeshare and they would rent out the other units as a hotel room. It's right on the water...and its the beachy side.

WPB = is a town called West Palm Beach. If you go there it is worth stoping at the Flager Museum. This is where the train area started - near this in Palm Beach. The Museum is still as it was in the 1800s. It is gorgeous and so back in time. Worth the visit. Flager is the one that had the railroad bulit. You would also be near Worth Ave. in Palm Beach and the ocean.

The only code I know for West Palm Beach is PBI, which is the standard airline code. I've been there several times...it's really nice, except during Spring Break!!!

We did last year for 10 days. Really enjoyed it. FYI - It is not a "beach-centric" type of vacation....

Had the best fish sandwich of my life at Craig's Restaurant in Islamorada. The place is not much to look at, but oh my the fish sandwich is to die for! Definitely stop there on the drive down.

One more suggestion.... in the afternoon, take the Westin's water taxi over to Sunset Key for lunch. If you do not stay there you can not use the beach, but you can enjoy a fabulous lunch and relaxing boat ride over... it is a beautiful spot
