I was offended at the first post (and I don't even own a shihtzu), but the good of the others here on YT kept it fairly lighthearted for a while at least. If I don't like a certain kind of dog I'm gonna keep it to myself b/c this is a forum for DOG LOVERS. Personally, I took the first post to be along the lines of "what kind of nationalities of people do you not like?"

LOL! you know, i was actually thinking that same thing today. i was thinking that it would be like asking what race/nationalities do you dislike. eek!

I do not blame the dogs, I have thrown toys over the fence for them to have something to do. I am sure it is separation anxiety that they need to address the issue. But other then that I think the dogs are very sweet.:D

I agree with your post. I did not appreciate some of the OP's comments about Shih Tzus. Many people love this breed including me. The qualities that make a Shih Tzu a great pet for others were not qualities the OP appreciated. I see my Shih Tzu has a part of my family. I wish people would try to take the time to understand the breed's temperament before making negative comments about the breed. I now understand how some Pit Bull owners feel. I understand not everybody find Shih Tzus beautiful or love their personality. If you want to see some beautiful Shih Tzus, then look at some of the Shih Tzus at Shih Tzu Chatter Two. I love my dog's button nose. I always give her a little kiss on the nose.

I can sort of see why people found this thread offensive, but IMO it wasn't offensive. If the OP had merely said lets list breeds we wouldn't own and it had stayed friendly, it could've been a lot of giggly fun. Specifying that you find a dog revolting is too far IMO.

I agree to a point - but certain words were offensive and there's no reason to say things that intentionally hurt peoples feelings-

I did laugh when I read the comment about yorkies with long hair though - that was pretty bold considering what kind of site this is

I felt like posting a pic of my Chanel with her 7 inch long braid..... (she's in my avatar)

it sucks when your dog has better hair than you do :D

I understand your opinion, but I just have a different opinion. When I read this thread, it seemed to me that some people bashed the breed. On the General Forum, many people create threads ranting about how they can't stand people saying negative comment about their favorite breed. So why should I feel any different? I am not upset about the comments. I was just shocked to see these types of comments on a dog friendly forum. I guess it is just human nature. Not everybody likes the same jokes. LOL These are my opinions on how I perceived this thread. We all have the right to have our own viewpoint about this thread. I just wanted to express my opinions. :)

I hate Chow Chow's. One came into my yard and picked up my little poodle mix and took off with him in his mouth. He survived that time but wasn't so lucky the next, neither was the Chow Chow. Can't say I really hate any other breed. There are those I don't care for. I had a shih Tzu for 14 years, I loved him to death but his name was Rambo and he lived up to it. He would just as soon bite you as not if he didn't want to do something. I wouldn't trust them with small children. I love smushie face dogs I have one a boxer, Love mini-schnauzers, Collies, shetland sheepdogs, border collies and last but definitely not least yorkies. As far as aggressiveness I think pound for pound the smaller breeds win hands down. Now, this is totally my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.:D

After all that has gone on with this thread I think I need to not edit but clarify my orignal post. I probably should have said I hated this particular Chow Chow. Knowing the personality of the Chow Chow I don't think I could trust one. As for shih Tzus I don't hate them I had Rambo for 14 years, I got him when I lived with my mother and she totally spoiled him and negated any training I tried to do. I have learned so much since then. I never thought he was stupid nor ugly. Why would I have wanted a stupid, ugly dog. He would bite and he gave me the only dog bites I've ever had. Being snappy is the only reason I wouldn't recommend them in homes with very small children. His big eyes were one of the things that drew me to the breed. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I was just stating mine. It wasn't aimed at nor intended to hurt anyone's feelings and if it did I apologize. I came to YT to make friends not enemies. If it hadn't been for YT and all the good information I received here I probably would never have known what great dogs yorkies are. I love my Daisy. She has even won over my non dog loving husband. That was a very big job for such a tiny dog.

Sorry to go OT, but I've been meaning to tell you one of your yorkies (not sure which one, has the most stunning coat and colouring! She's my dream yorkie. The one who is brownish and a deep gold? Her hair is thick and so soft. There's another member here (AprilLOve?) with the same gorgeous hair. *Sigh. My dream yorkie. Anyway, back on topic.

Breeds I am not fond of: Staffies, poodles that have been shaved (the curly ones are gorgeous) and rotties.

JeanieK 01-12-2010 06:12 AM

I am not fond of any of the big slobbery dogs. I'd rather clean up yorkie pee than to have that slobber all over.

Shellygirlky 01-12-2010 06:13 AM

Has anyone noticed that the breeds we don't care for are usually the ones we have had a bad experience with?

No, actually I totally agree with you. My post was just poorly worded. I felt that the bashing of certain breeds is what made it offensive. If we could've said, say, I don't like Shihtzu's because they have teeny little faces, that's something we could have a giggle at. Or, Chinese Crested...Poor darlings have no fur! That would've kept it fun and we would've learned more about each other. Bashing a breed of dog was totally inappropriate IMO, this was a thread that should've started out on a lighthearted note.

P.S Daisy is gorgeous! Shih tzu's are one of my all time favourite breeds. :)

That AND.....I love all breeds, but will stick with my yorkies and yorkie mixes...I much prefer cleaning up tootsie rolls over cow pies.

Thank you ! you must mean Chanel my oldest. Her coat is actually not breed standard but she does have really pretty coloring ....my youngest is the one with silky hair and much easier to maintain.
