Any Breed You Do *NOT* Like? I feel bad saying this, but I just cannot stand Shih Tzus. I find them unattractive and slow-learning, almost kind of retarded :pfft:. Maybe they have good points, but all that I have encountered are pretty much the same. They don't even run, nor do they jump (that I've seen). Frankly, I can't understand just why they're so popular? I'm sure there are a few Shih Tzus out there that are awesome, so can somebody enlighten me on their good points? Okay, I said it. It can't be unsaid now. |
LOL - I used to not like Shihs, but over the years, they have kind of grown on me and lasha apsos also. I don't like any dogs with big eyes (pugs) and short noses (pugs, English bulldogs or Japanese Chin) those kinds of dogs. Had to edit this to add the Pekingese. I'm also not fond of boxers - not sure why - maybe because they look dopey to me  The rest are pretty cool in my book. |
I think they are cute. Years ago one of my neighbors had one and it was very devoted to its owners |
LOL My father had Shih Tzus and my grandparents had one. They were very very smart. When my grandfather would come in from the store Brandy would know immediately that he had treats in his pocket. Pop would put them on the top of his dresser and Brandy would stand and bark at the dresser as if to say I know you have them, now hand them over! She went everywhere with Pop, hung out in the garage with him all day while he tinkered and was his best friend. They had her for 18 years. Pop always said that he wanted to be burried with her but Pop went first. I don't think Brandy ever got over Pop not being there. I think a lot of a dog's personality really does come from how they are raised. Now let's see, a breed I don't care for. Pugs. They are too funny and really make me smile when I see them but don't care for the short hair that sheds and gets in everything and don't care thier slobbery, goopy faces with thier big bulging eyes getting all over me. Funny thing is that every one that posts one they don't like there will be others who come just like I did with stories why they like the breed you don't. LOL |
Maybe you have met the wrong ones.:) One of the smartest dogs I've seen was a Shih tzu, although he didn't know that. He belonged to my friend's son. That is the only one I've 'known'. My Cooper has some Shih tzu in her, with Maltese too. She has been a challenge, to say the least, and by far harder to work with than my Yorkie. She is TOO hyper! That is not because of her breed at all though. All her behavior is from her previous home. :( |
same. Not a big fan of any brachyocephalic dog, really. They snort, have that bug-eyed look, and severe underbites. The Yorkie is actually listed as this, but I disagree w/this categorization - yorkies are beautiful, don't snort, have bug-eyes, or smooshed in faces. Oh well. To each their own. I just think Shihs are well, ... nevermind :tongue4: |
I think of dogs like I do people. I don't like to judge a whole group based upon a few I've met. I have met a few dogs I didn't care for, but can't say I "hated" any of them. Guess I'm just a dog person! lol! :D |
Well if I'm honest, I really am not keen on jack russel terriers or staffordshire bull terriers. Two of the most popular breeds over here, especially where I live. Most are badly bred and badly trained, too many staffies are in the wrong hands too. Most dont even look like staffies. Alot of those breeding the poor quality one justfy it by saying correctly bred ones are unhealthy so they're doing the breed a favour. |

Also, at the doggie park, another Shih Tzu would lift his leg and pee all over any and everyone. Ugh! Also, hump anything in a 3 mile radius. So, yeah, I probably have met some doozies that influenced my disdain of Shihs :idontknow |
1 Attachment(s) I am not going to say I don't like Dalmatians but I really afraid of them. Leftover from a traumatic childhood of being chased...daily by Lucky the Dalmatian. That dog was mean. Also not fond of Weimaraners, we had one growing up- it was my Dad dogs that we raised from a puppy until he was 17 years old. Since I was the youngest Thor (the dog) was totally alpha over me, I can remember his chasing me and ripping my nightgown off and to top it all he would sleep in my canopy bed, the big jerk. I will try to attach a picture of Thor the jerk (not sure why I even have this thing) |

You're right, I did love Thor but he made me into a cat person for a long time. |
