| One more reason I don't like this family Kate Gosselin: 'Dogs Needed More Than I Could Give' by Kristen Seymour (Subscribe to Kristen Seymour's posts) Oct 28th 2009 4:30PM Categories: Dogs, Celebrity Pets Print Email More Kate Gosselin is too busy for a dog. Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram, Getty Images One of the many headlines Kate Gosselin made this past year had to do with the family dogs. Specifically, Gosselin caused some commotion in September when she adopted a pair of German Shepherds, then returned them to their breeder. (At the time, Kate said, "They'll come back, but for now I needed a break." And in case she didn't make her feelings about the furballs clear from the start (In the video of the family getting the dogs, Kate states, "I could go my whole life without having a dog."), she's setting the record straight now. In her TLC special that aired on Monday, Kate answered viewer questions, including some about the pooches. She said that she "never intended to give them back," but found that the dogs, Shoka and Nala, "needed more than [she] could give them," reports USA Today. In the end, it came down to choosing "between the dogs and the kids and the kids come first." As sad as it is that the Gosselins weren't able to keep the animals they adopted, it's understandable that their children had to take precedence. The real tragedy is that a highly publicized television family brought home pets without thinking it through. Dogs, especially when they're young, require lots of time and attention. Is anybody actually surprised that this chaotic family wasn't able to properly care for two German Shepherd puppies? Moral of the story: If your time is stretched thin already (like Kate's) and you don't really like dogs to begin with (ahem, again like Kate), perhaps you and your family should consider a lower-maintenance pet instead.

| There really are a lot of Kate's in the world... I guess that is why we have so many rescue's looking for home's.. I guess I think of them as my children, and know they need me.. Unless a health issue comes up that is not expected and the dog is being alone too much.. I feel the same way.. especially with yorkies... they are high matenance and people so only the beauty, not the work that goes into having them.. |

| At least she realized she couldn't handle them and sent them back to the breeder...and at least she got them from a breeder. I think her world is scary crazy right now and the dogs are both better off back with the person who bred them.

| Wow, I dont care for her either , NOT ONE BIT. Honestly I have to say the new show Kate plus 8 will be bull !!! I used to love the show when they were a " normal" family with real family issues, Jon was looking for work, Kate had to give up her career to be a stay at home mom.. They had a moderate home with just average furniture. That was " reality" TV.. Please tell me what is interesting about a single mom who has more money then 80% of working class couples. She has nanny's to watch the children, she has a cook to feed the kids. She travels and leaves her children with nannys.. ( that must be stressful) , her kids each wear outfits that cost well over 100.00 each, ( I know this because I was a manager at Gymboree for 2 years!! ( most people are stuggling to pay thier mortgage these days , never mind 100.00 MATCHING outfits for 8 kids!! She has a brand new vehicle and 1.5 Million dollar home.. There is nothing for most people to relate too. As far as her giving the dogs back to the breeders, I am really happy that she chose to do that, she never had any intrest in them to begin with and I think she made that VERY VERY CLEAR from the begining.. she is just to selfish!! JMHO

| I had a lady come to my house to look at a puppy. She brought a friend with her. She sat oln the sofa and i gave her the puppy that she wanted to see. The puppy was being a normal healthy puppy and wanting to get in her face. She kept setting it back on her lap and finally said, 'It's so wiggly. The one at the pet store just sat there'. Her friend said "ya and it was shaking, it didn't move cause it was scared to death." I wanted to say "lady, how about a stuffed animal". Needless to say she did not get one of my dogs. |

| I am also glad the dogs were taken back by the breeder as I watched the show when she got the dogs and it made me sick. I have also watched for the dogs during the different shows and never saw them so I was pretty sure they became throw away animals...even kids didn't seem to care about them. I am so sick of Jon and Kate and it makes me ill that TLC is filming her. What sends me over the moon is when she says she is just doing her job with all this filming...hello her kids are her job...not the millions she is looking for.

| I am glad the dogs are back with the breeder, it irritated me when she got the dogs, and it irritated me when she gave her reason for sending them back. I'm definately not a Kate fan, I'll be happy when I don't see her face plastered every I look

| Fish! That's what I was thinking when I read this! Then iwas thinking I could send them Celestes robotic cat she got for her b-day! My dad always remarks how it's the perfect pet for the absent minded. "you don't have to feed it or water it" it's soft and cuddly you can hold it for hours and never have an accident!! LOL! |

| OK...what about the breeder who sold her the pups in the FIRST place? Who in their right mind would put a pup, much less 2, in a single parent home with 8 children under the age of 10? Jon & Kate are just a freak show.... |

I have mixed emotions about the children part as I think there are large breed types that do wonderfully with kids and would never ever bite them. I don't know enough about German Shepards to say this was a good thing or not. I grew up with Labs and Golden Retrievers and would not hesitate to have children around them. My brother has Bernese Mt Dogs and they have been terrific with the kids also. I guess the bottom line is that parents have to be involved no matter what breed is around the kids.
