It's been 7 days without a soda

That is so good. I quit buying soda in my house about 10 years ago. Water and Juice thats it. I gave up wine for Lent. I loved my wine but if anything doesnt it feel good not to be dependent on things.Lissette

The other good thing I decided about giving up soda (Day 14!! - woo-hoo!!) is that I think I will save a lot of money. It's just not the money & bottle deposit I paid on the Coke - but often I would go to the store primarily because I was out of Coke, but then end up buying other things, that I didn't need at all or right then.

Matter of fact - I'm on a kick right now to see how long I can go without going to the store - have to have milk & cereal, but other than that, I have so much in my pantry and fridge. Even trying to avoid eating out.

ok well then you dont have a problem, you're good. i love sweet drinks lol so its hard for me but i even sleep with my bottle water lol

well here I sit with an empty coke bottle in front of me,.........3rd one already today, and I want another coke or a diet dr. pepper. You guys are great to have conquered the "beast", but I just can't do it. If I quit, I get one major massive headache. I can drink at least 10 pops a day......... I know I am bad.............


I really need to kick this addiction.....I just can't!

wvmomof3, Ashley V & betsi -- you can all do this too! Don't doubt it! Make a plan - get the coke or soda out of the house. I fully expected headaches - but I had none. I feel really good actually - I'm starting week 3 of no diet coke - other sodas don't tempt me.

This is a great support group & if you go read up on the dangers of what is in the soda - it might help convince you - lots of good info has been shared here.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I'll feel bad for several days..I've tried this before I drink about 6 a day, and have for years..I'm 51 My hubby just retired, and if I get the diet cokes out of the house, that means he'll have to stop, too. He won't like it, but if it helps me he would be willing to do it too. I have been reading about the dangers for a long time. I have so many of the side effects it's not even funny I wake up AND go to bed with a diet coke...Geez...DIET COKE is even my favorite password to use Guess I'll change that

6 a day is suppose to apply to fruit -- ok, 6 diet cokes is a lot, can you start by paring it back to 3 or 4?? - I doubt you should go cold turkey. Perhaps replace the soda with water or a favorite 100% juice. V-8 is a great choice - I buy the low sodium - it is very filling. I still think you can change this, a bit at a time. I wonder if you have health problems that are related to drinking so many sodas

I have decided to cut back instead of doing it all at once. I seriously have a dependence on them, and the fact is, I just love the taste! I think I'll go to iced tea sweetened with splenda or stevia. What do you think about that? I hate V8, lol! Fruit juice has so much sugar, I hate to drink much of that. Oh poor me!! Thanks for helping me. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks

I think tea is a great choice. I don't drink mine sweetened though. I haven't tried stevia. Flavored tea might be a good alternative too - give you a taste. I love berries, so raspberry tea or a mixed berry tea is always a good choice for me. Maybe you can find something similar - there are so many tea choices

Okay, so here is my problem... I have to have my caffiene in the morning but it gets really expensive to go to the cafeteria, or to buy individual cans, or the 24 oz bottles, or to go to the vending machine, so I buy the 2 or 3 liter bottles and I have it at my desk. By the end of the day I come to the sad realization that the bottle is empty or almost empty. I just can't quit! I need to limit my access, but I don't know how to do it without spending an arm and a leg. I'm going to be buying some selzer water and different kinds of juices. I had some of my mom's the other day and it was really good. If I drink 64 ozs of selzer water (with juice) does that count as my water for the day?

I will say that today I did pretty good... well for me anyways. I only drank 1/2 of the bottle while I was at work instead of the whole bottle.

If you aren't worried about sugar juice is ok. Some juice can have as much or more sugar than soda. Have you tried sugar free kool-aid? We drink alot of that here, and Country Time has a lemonade that is half the sugar as their regular lemonade (but not all stores carry it).

I should be concerned with sugar, but I'm not lol. My mom has diabetes so I can easily get it especially since she had gestational diabetes while she was pregnant with me. I wasn't going to drink it all day long. I was going to try and alternate between diet pepsi, seltzer/juice, and regular water.
