OMG! My pregnant sister just fell over on the ice!!!

Im so glad the little one is ok. I hope she has a speedy recovery dont beat yourself up, it's no way your fault what happened. You seem to be a great big sister and a soon to be awesome aunt!

How scary-for her to go through and for you to witness! I hope her ankle heals quickly-crutches & casts in the winter are the worst (I have had two-but never actually broken a bone, strangely enough). I am glad the doctors are not worried about the baby-you are right, that little one is tiny and in a nice, soft bubble I will keep her and her little one in my thoughts.

I have spoken to my sister this morning and the docs have said that her leg needs pinning. At the moment the only pain relief she is on is paracetamol because of the baby and we're not sure whats going to happen when she goes into surgery today She said they said something about trying to numb it And to make matters worse they told her that if they don't get it absolutely right then she may never walk on that leg again-she is only 24 She was crying on the phone to me that she will be like an old woman with a walking stick and I just did'nt know what to say I got mad that they had told her that and said to think positive. She is a practising Christian and after speaking to her I rang her church and asked the pastors wife to ring her asap.
I feel so guilty for offering to walk round the clinic with her, if I had just given her directions she would have drove and this would'nt have happenedI'm crying right now and I feel like this is all my fault. I was excited about her first midwife appointment and wanted to be there, even though I could'nt actually go in as I had my 2 toodlers with me. Now I keep thinking that she must blame me, that I should have let het drive. But there was'nt time to load the carseats and kids in the car-and now I'm babbling and repeating myself! And I'm making this all about me-and thats not want I want. My sister needs your thoughts and prayers, please include her in them.

PLEASE do not blame yourself!! A lot of times doctors only give you the worst case scenerio. I told you how my mom had the same exact thing happen to her. She broke 2 bones in 3 places, dislocated her ankle, and had to have a rod and screws put in, and she was almost 50 at the time. She gets pain in her ankle now and then, but otherwise she is just fine and walks fine. My husband, 7 years ago fell asleep at the wheel at 1 in the afternoon, and crushed his ankle in the accident. He actually shattered his calcaneus, and it came out the side of his foot. He needed immediate surgery to have a rod and pins put in as well. The inside of that heel bone died and colapsed as a result, but even with that, he only has a slight limp that is only noticable if you watch for it (although his one ankle is notably larger than the other).
Your sister is young, and the younger you are when something like this happens, the better. She will heal quickly and she will be back to walking soon. It took my mom nearly 3 months before she could walk, and just under than with my husband (who is far more determined than my mom). We always joke that I better not ever hurt one of my feet or legs, because I am the only one with a good set
She will have to do physical therapy, and really take it easy during her pregnancy as she will be harboring a little extra weight on that freshly healed bone, but rest assured, she will walk again.
I was on the phone with my mom as she was getting out of her car and slipped on the ice. I beat myself up over it for awhile because if she wouldn't have been on the phone with me, she would have been able to catch herself. You cannot blame yourself though.
Hang in there, pray for your sis, and forgive yourself, you did nothing wrong. Just be there to help her and support her. She will do great.

Thank you so much for your words of support. It really does help and makes me wonder how on earth I ever lived without YT.
She has longed to start a family for several years, even though they are a young couple they have been together for almost 10 years and being true Christians married young so that their relationship could move on and they moved in together on their wedding night. She worried that because everything had been so perfect so far that it may take her a long time to get pregnant, but they had'nt even started trying when she caught and they are over the moon. Now with surgery looming I don't have the heart to tell that as far as the hospital is concerned the mother is always FIRST priority and if they need to put her under-they will! I have no idea if the baby could survive G.A so early in pregnancy. My heart is breaking for herand her husband.

God bless your sister and her little one! That was definitely a bad fall, but there is NO BLAME to be placed on anyone. It could've happened if she'd driven and gotten out of the car on a slippery surface.

As a Christian, I'm sure your sister knows that all is in HIS hands. I'll be praying for her and the baby today and will check for updates after work this evening.

My eyes are filling with tears just reading everyones kind words. Thank you all sooo much and will mean alot to her to know that there are people all over the world praying for her and the baby. I'm going to visit tonight about 5-6 hours from now so I will update when I get home. Thanks again.
