OMG! My pregnant sister just fell over on the ice!!! I feel sooo bad:( I was walking round to the clinic with my sister for her first midwife appointment (her husband couldn't get the time of work). Neither of us thought it was that slippy out:( When she went down I thought she had just twisted her ankle, but she couldn't get up, I tried to help her but she said she could'nt move. I thought she was being dramatic when she said she heard a crack, she thought she had broken it:eek:But I thought said had just sprained it. I phoned the clinic and a midwife and a couple of nurses came out to help but they are not allowed to treat offsite. They said she needed an ambulance, I began to call but it was busy and as I was waiting for an answer an ambulance drove past and the nurses flagged them down. The paramedics cut off her boot and she was suddenly in alot more pain, they gave her gas and air. I rang my brother who was luckily off work and he drove round to us, I had my 2 youngest kids and the stroller with me so I could'nt get in the ambulance with her. Once they loaded her onto the stretcher they examined her and said she had DISLOCATED her ankle:eek: I feel so guilty for not believing her at first:( and I feel bad because if she had drove round on her own this would'nt have happened but she walked becuse we did'nt have time to put the car seats in her car to drive round. She was'nt sure how to get there by car so I offered to walk round with her. I know she is worried about her baby too-she is only 6-8 weeks gone and I tried to reassure her that the baby is tucked up in plenty of padding and she kinda landed on her legs if you know what I mean:confused: I'm just sat here waiting for news:confused: I need to be here to go and pick my other kids up from school in 2 hours time and by the time I got the hospital I'd have to come back:( I just needed to get it all out:( Thanks for being there. |
My mom did the same thing 3 years ago on the ice, only instead of just dislocating her ankle, the dislocation was so severe it caused both of her longbones in her lower leg to snap as well. She needed surgery to repair them and a bar placed in her leg. Just from slipping on the ice! It's terrible! As far as the pregnancy goes, I fell down the stairs on my bottom during 2 of my pregnancies. One time it was a full flight, the other time a half flight. Both times I was carrying laundry  . Anyway, I hurt my back and back side more than anything else. Babies were ok. Update soon and let us know how everything is! My mom swears that the dislocation is far more painful than the breaks were! She said it was so excrusiating all the way up to her knee. She said that once they put it back into place, it took away 90% of the pain! The breaks were nothing compared to that! |
Just had a phone call from my brother and she HAS broken it:eek: In 2 places:eek: Not sure if she has dislocated it too:eek: She is just having a cast put on. I told my brother to make sure she rings me as soon as she is on the ward (all of the beds have their own phones). I don't think he knows about the pregnancy yet so I can't ask him what they've said about it but I'm assumming that they'll give an early scan (I had one at 5 weeks gone and they could see a heartbeat if nothing else). I'm praying everything will be Ok. I too have had many falls whilst carrying my 4 kids but it does'nt make it any less worrying.:( Shes my baby sister and this is first baby. |
I"m so sorry to hear this!! I hope she has a speedy recovery! |
Oh no! I too had a minor fall when I was pregnant - it's very worrying, all you can think about is your baby....I hope your sister has a speedy recovery and that the rest of her pregnancy is healthy and happy:D xxx xxx |
Just glad your sis has you around. Sounds like you care a great deal. Hope the healing goes well and the baby is safe. |
Sorry to hear this. I just want to let you know I will keep you & your Sister in my thoughts today. I hope she has a speedy recovery. Don't feel bad these things happen, everything will be okay. |
So sorry to hear about this! I was in a car accident when I was about that far along with my second child. I was SO worried about the baby but my dr. said that at that stage, you would pretty much have to crush your pelvic bones to cause any damage. At that small, they are so insulated and protected. Now, a hard fall I'm sure could be a different case. I hope the baby is okay and that her ankle heals quickly! |
Thanks everybody for being there this is one of the many reasons that make me sooo grateful for YT! She is staying in tonight and they are going to put a cast on tomorrow, (my brother got the wrong end of the stick earlier:rolleyes:) But I still haven't managed to speak to her and ask if they are going to check the baby. Her husband is with her now so I'm going to try to ring her later after visiting hours. |
I've spoken to her at last:rolleyes: The docs have said not worry about the baby and they're not even worried enough to do a scan! It seems her ankle has actually "snapped" OUCH!!! But hopefully she will be home tomorrow! Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. |
Oh gosh I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope she recovers quickly and as painlessly as possible. |
Oh wow! I am so very sorry for your winter accident. I will keep your sister and her unborn child in my throughts  and prayers :hands: |
Thank God she is ok! It is a bad day for ice everywhere! Yesterday was terrible, but today my cousin who just had a baby 2 months ago went to go house hunting, and fell and broke her leg! Thankfully the baby wasn't in her arms! I cannot believe how common it is to break a leg or ankle doing simple tasks! Be careful out there folks! |
Oh my!! I am so sorry about your sister's fall ... thankful it wasn't worse than it was. I will keep you all in my prayers, including her little one! Thank God she is OK. |
Thanks for the update! I'm so sorry about the broken ankle - I"m thankful the they are not concerned about the baby! Hugs to both of you!!!!! :) |
