Collards and Blackeyed peas

I made black eyed peas, cornbread and cabagge. I'm vegetarian, so I don't put any of the salt pork stuff in it. What I do since hubby is not veg I fry some bacon and add it to his bowl once he is ready to eat his
I've never eaten green collards with BEP, but that sure sounds good!

I like to season my greens with salt pork, aka salt bacon.
But use hamhocks in my peas and beans.
Love baby lima's with hamhocks.

Hope I have this right ... this is the first time I have ever written it down! I use what my Mother called the "pinch, dab & smidgen" cooking method! Please let me know if you try it and how it turns out?

Oh Yummy Yummy Yummy. It sounds incredible! I make something similar but add some sharp cheddar cheese.

Ok I have to comment..... you use REAL BUTTER, eggs, and REAL sour cream ...... and skimmed milk? Sounds like me at McDonalds -- I'll take a double cheese burger, order of fries, make that supersize AND a diet coke.


When I make cornbread or biscuits I use whole buttermilk. This year, sadly enough I am going to have to start using "skinny butter and skinny milk" for health reasons.

I'd be curious to find out where the tradition started of eating collards and black eyed peas on new years. I've heard of it many times. Wikipedia, anyone? I bet we can find it somewhere.

I put some nice Pig Grease in my Black Eyes, makes em yummy. (Bacon Grease).

Bacon grease sounds so much nicer than PIG grease.

well, I always was told it was cabbage and BLACK EYED PEAS!
MY SISTER MADE THE BEST SALSA FROM BLACKEYED PEAS-AND WE HAD IT with cheese quesillia- not spelled right-

the salsa was:
blackeyed peas, red and green pepper, hot pepper,celery, onion, - a little vinager and oil!

Talk about good! Yummy!

then we had steak, cheese grits and scalloped cabbage for supper!!

yep, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Are you serious? I did laundry on NYD so that I washed away everything bad from last year's...
