I moved into this house wich is just carpet. There, I found some bottles for lice control. Now, my daughter was sent back from school because she has lice even in her body!!. She just started school monday for first time. So now, I am freaking out, because I never saw a lice in person. I know she didn't get it at school because all the other kids got checked for it. I have being itching like craZY since we moved here. I called some experts, and told them the situation, they agree that it must have being in the carpect from before we moved, and the CARPETS were not shampooed properly. My daugther was checked for lice at head start in pa before we moved to NC, and she was found to be free from it. That is why I am 100% sure she got it from this house. Now, the question is, how in the world do I get rid of it!! Please help. I am a very clean person. I hate to be treated, as if I dont cleAN MY HOUSE PROPERLY, WHICH WAS SOGESTED BY ONE OF THE TEACHERS.

I remember getting them back when I was in grammar school and my mom wrapped all pillows and teddy bears in plastic washed all blanket and bedding in hot water ...she did all this while we were sitting there with threatment in our hair.....then she put plastic matress protectors on the beds and sprinkled salt on all the rugs then vaccummed them. Then repeated the salt and vaccuming a few times.......We never got them again after that...I think you have to leave the plastic on the pillow and bed for a few months to make sure anything living on them dies. This was a long time ago they may have come out with some new sprays or something you can spray the rugs and beds with....hope this helps.

Aww, that's too bad that your daughter ended up with lice. I've always heard it was tranfered from kid to kid, but I can see where it could have been in your carpeting. Please don't let anyone make you feel like it's because your not a clean person!! Lice don't care, they are very easily picked up, I know because I raised 4 daughters, plus ran a home daycare and had issues with lice. There are many products you can buy at a drugstore that will help get rid of them. First of all, a good shampoo for you and your daughter, then I think you can get a spray to use around your home and beds, etc. You will need to launder everything that might be infected. Good luck and please don't feel like you are not clean enough, ask anyone with kids, chances are they have had a problem with lice also

It was called RID...Back them it was just a shampoo, but I just looked it up and it comes with a spray for your pillows and furniture her is the website. RID

Lice like clean hair better than dirty. So clean people are more likely to get it. Typically adults that style their hair don't have it because blowdrying and other heated items like curling irons and straighteners kill them, and they don't like styling product like hair spray and gel. Lice cannot live that long without human contact, so unless you moved in the day they moved out, odds are she did pick it up at school or from someone else. Last year my kids picked it up from school, and 5 of my 6 (yikes!!) got it. I will not use RID or any other pesticides as they are heavily linked to cancer. Last year I heard so many horror stories, even from a lady that worked at the health department (ran into her at the store, thank God!) about how much of a risk of cancer there is from them. She told me the best thing to do was drench them in oil, let their hair sit under plastic wrap or a cap for at least an hour because it suffocates the lice, and pick them out with a comb. I didn't think that could really work, so I went and bought some holistic stuff. That stuff did pretty well, but didn't get rid of all of them apparently. So I went and did the oil thing and that worked better than anything!! After I went through their hair with the lice comb, they got showers, and I blow dried all their hair, on hot, for a long time. You have to be careful not to burn them (lol, obviously) but the blowdrying really helps. I also did the obvious wash of all the bedding. You can put all the stuffed animals in a garbage bag for a week or 2, and they will all die. Saves on washing. As far as carpeting, get a big box of salt, yes salt. It works for fleas too. Salt dehydrates them and they die. Salt, leave overnight, vacuum, repeat the next day, and then a week later.

Do the eggs look like dandify? That is all I see in her hair. I have psoriasis, and I think that I see now is little flake,. But then again, I dont really know. I had done the rid, the salt on the carpet, AND i BOUGHT PLASTIC COVERS FOR EVERY PILLOW, AND MATRESS. i DID ALL OF THIS SINCE 4PM THIS AFTERNOON. sINCE IS DARK NOW, i WILL WAIT TILL TOMORROW TO CHECK AGAIN. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!!!!

I have been very fortunate with 4 kids never had it but they say the lice look like sesame seeds and are attached to the hair. Good luck I feel for you.

I work in a child care center and we have had issues with lice on a few occasions. The best thing you can do is bag everything that is soft or could have transfered lice to it and put it outside for at least 2 weeks. You have to be careful because even if you get all the adults out, the eggs will hatch and you will end up doing it all over again!

Then, as a preventative from this point forward.... Tea Tree Oil

It's strong smelly stuff, but the Lice don't like the smell of it so they won't attach to you. You can buy it at almost any drug store, walmart, target, and some grocery stores. Put a few drops in your shampoo and wash with it two or so times a week. (I would do more until you know for sure that it is out of your house).

This is what we ALWAYS tell parents to do... and all the teachers I know swear by this too! ( I even know a teacher who hasn't been to a movie theater in 10 years because she is afraid of lice... and she swears by this!)

Yes tea tree oil is an excellent treatment and preventative. Its great to use all of the lice season to prevent it.

Oh girl...I feel for you. Been there done that with my daughter.

What happens with lice...you kill the bugs themselves...and 2 weeks later...the eggs hatch. The eggs are called nits. Ever hear the term....nit pickin' ? You need to wash her head with a lice shampoo...then use the nit comb to comb the nits out of her hair. They are stuck on the hair shaft. The easiest way to see them...outside in bright sunlight or a bright light indoors. Favorite spot for lice...the nap of the neck and behind the ears.

Two weeks from the day you wash her hair....you need to do it again. Don't skip this step.

Anything you can wash in hot water...wash. Her bedding, her clothes, the brush she uses...all of that. If you can't wash it and it's small enough...pack it all up in a plastic bag and leave for two weeks. There is also sprays you can buy for your furniture.

I am told the heat from a blow dryer works wonders too.

Can they ever be confused with psoriasis debry? I had that my whole life, and that is all I see in her hair, now. Still , I will treat it as lice because I could be wrong. Any way, the rudness of the teatcher is making my frustration worse.

Both the lice and the nits are usually within 1/2 from the scalp itself, on the strands. The eggs will be firmly "glued" to the hair strands themselves, and be hard to pull off with your fingernails. If it is psoriasis, they will not be attached to the hair strands.
