They do not look like dandruff. If you take her outside in sunlight...the sunlight reflects off the nits. This was the easiest way for me to see them with the naked eye. While combing her hair out...have a small container with lice shampoo/water...rinse the comb in it. That is where you'll see the bugs themselves. You can try to feel the nits if you want...pull up a few strains of hair and slowly pull it between your finger and thumb... Schools see lice so often...I really doubt they're mistaken unfortunately.

| ![]() I feel your pain! This past summer my daughter caught them, I still cant pinpoint who it was from because we were so many places that were full of children i will tell you it was one of the worse things to get rid of.I would strongly advise you to stay away from over the counter shamppos such as rid and nix they are very toxic and harmful. The combs that come with those kits are useless. I bought this comb and its the best thing ever https://naturalginesis.com/cart/inde...d&productId=19 and used this shampoo https://naturalginesis.com/cart/inde...d&productId=16 It is safe and non toxic. Once you use the shampoo you have to be very persistant with the nit combing. I tired the vinegar, and mayonnaise neither worked for me. Here is a good site Cleaning the house for head lice

| ![]() I had a friend whose daughter was sent home from school 4 days in two weeks for this last month. Even though the other days in between she was checked by school officials and had no lice or eggs. Here are some ideas to help. I gave them to her and it cleared her daughter all up. - Put mayonaise on her hair and cover it with a shower cap and leave for 3 hours. Comb out with lice comb. - Put Dawn Original dishsoap on her hair and leave for 5 minutes and then wash out. (This should help get out all of the mayonaise.) - Rinse with White Vinegar and water and comb out with lice comb. - Condition with coconut conditioner (Suave makes some.) Supposedly it detracts future lice. - Then blowdry hair thoroughly. Straightening hair also helps keep them from reoccuring. - Don't forget to soak all brushes and combs and hair clips, bows, ponytail holders in alcohol and rinse with scalding hot water or throw them out. - Dry her sheets, pillows and comforter for 20 minutes on high everyday until the lice are gone. Don't forget stuffed animals. - Check for eggs about a half inch from the roots. - Tell her NOT to lean her head against other childrens (This is how my friends teenage daughter kept getting reinfected. She had a new cell phone and was taking pictures with an infected friend.) - Put her hair up in a ponytail and spray it with hairspray everyday until the lice problem is cleared up at her school. The mayonaise smothers live lice. The Dawn helps loosen any remaining eggs. The vinager reconditions her hair after the Dawn has stripped it. The coconut detracts them from returning. I would do the Dawn Wash and the Vinegar Rinse every other day for a week to make sure they stay gone. The coconut conditioner and the blowdrying can be everyday. Our pediatrician when I was younger told my mom that using the prescription stuff more than 1 or 2 times is useless because they become immune to it. She chose not to use it at all and go for the home remedies.

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I don't know if they still make it but a few years ago (like 7-8 years) there was a spray you could spray on the hair that would make the eggs turn colors, I think bright pink so they are easier to see and thus remove. Does your daughter have dark hair? That may be causing part of the problem, making them more difficult to spot. I would definitely do all the washings mentioned here but also blow dry your and her hair completely everyday to prevent future outbreaks, even if you just focus on the roots and 1/2 of the hair shaft that should be good enough in a pinch. Bag all the toys and bleach and hot water wash everything else, throw out any hair barrettes or hair ties or scrunchies that you can't wash...I'd personally just toss her brush buy her a cheap new one then when you repeat the big mayo washing toss that one too and get her another one. Good luck.

| ![]() I am so very sorry for your lice woes. They are a pain in the patatootie. I worked in an elementary school for 13 years - although I am not an expert - have never ever had the critters nor have my children, this is what I have learned ..... Be sure your daughter understands that she didn't do anything wrong - a lot of kids feel dirty, or feel like they did something terrible to wind up with the lice. Be sure that your daughter understands that she can pick up lice from just about any article of clothing, brush, comb, etc. so it is very important that she NEVER EVER use someone else's comb, brush, jacket, sweater, and most of all NEVER NEVER EVER wear someone else's hat. All it takes is to pick up one stray nit and you are in the lice business. The lice shampoos are very harsh and if over used can actually be very harmful. Using occasionally should not cause a problem, but if you have a heavy infestation and they recurr there are electronic lice combs that are battery operated and kill the lice when you comb the hair. That way you are not subjecting your precious little one to harsh chemical pestisides on her head. Be sure to treat the entire home and everything washable. A commercial laundrymat is a perfect place to take big things that won't fit in y our home washer/dryer. Retreat every 7 to 10 days for as long as you see even one nit or one lice. Be sure to wash ALL of the clothes, towels, bath linens. treat curtains, carpets, etc. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() The eggs are very opalescent in the sunlight and firmly attached to the hair shaft. When my dtr got them we treated all of us and vacuumed everything we couldn't wash or put in plastic and retreated everything within 2 weeks and we got rid of them. It is so time consuming but you will get rid of them. Good luck

| ![]() Yes this is very time consuming. My husband says that he had it as a kid, and so all his sisters. He search strand by strand, and even him cant find them. Meanwhile. I have done some quimichal bombs in her hair; I have combed non stop, and wash,. We hispanics have a saying, that basically say : something good will come out of this. Now my daugther, who never let anyone comb her hair without a fight, is letting me do all of these; plus, she promised to wash her hair dally.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | ![]() When i was little i got lice at school cause i had really long hair and would wear it down. My mom used Mayonnaise and wrapped my hair for like an hr. She also used vinegar one time and picked them out one by one. I hate the smell tho!

| ![]() After being return home once again because of the lice problem, and vomiting from so much lice treatment, my husband took alisha to the naval hospital, where two nurses, and a naval DR did the necessary tests. She was found to not have lice, but a stage one psoriasis. Acording to the school rules in onslow county, a second opinion will not be acepted. In other words, My child is destined to suffer from a social handicap, and her mother has for 40 years.
