| What Have I Done?! So Much Pain! I have NEVER been in so much pain in my life. I went to hook my dishwasher up (it's portable or whatever they're called) and it's soo hard to get the hose for the water to full go on the faucet, you have to push really hard. I must have strained a little too hard because I heard something either pop in my neck. You know how if you turn your head real fast you'll hear a weird noise? That's the noise I heard. It was immediate EXCRUCIATING pain, I couldn't and didn't want to move. Does anyone know what this could be and how serious it is? I don't have insurance so I'd rather not go to the doctor for a few days to see if it gets better. I can't do anything though, if I even BARELY turn it feels like someone's stabbing me with a sharp object in the neck. I took 3 Ibuprofen and have ice on it right now. Should I go out and get some stronger medication and a heat pad? I'll have to have someone take me, I don't think I can drive. Thanks guys, this sucks

| Oh boy that's not good. I am sorry you haven't insurance but you should really see a doctor. If Advil dosen't help in a day or so please get to a doctor. Heat always helps me. Muscle relaxer's also incase you pulled a muscle. The disc's in the back of the neck are nothing to play around with. If your pain does not subside please see a doctor. It is cheaper than going to the ER. You may need an xray. I do hope you feel better soon. |

| I just went thoguh something similar. sounds like a neck strain or tortaculis. heat will help better than ice . also take the advil if it is not feeling any better in a day I would go in. You may be making it worse by not going in. |

| You should only put ice on for 20 min. then heat for 20 min. If it is not better in 2 days, go to the emergency room. They will work out a pay plan. Good luck to you, I have a lot of neck problems, it is painful.

| NO HEAT...not for the first 3 days I think. Heat makes the muscle expand (or something like that) all I know is that I learned from experience not to put heat on a new injury. ICE is good. Ice and ibuprofen.

| Thanks so much! I'm going to have my soon to be mother in law take me to get a heat pad in a little while. Should I get something stronger than the Ibeuprofen or what? If it isn't a little better in the morning then I'll most likely go to the emergency room so I don't have to pay up front. Thanks!!

| Yeah, this is what I read... to just use ice and that's what my mom told me. Now I'm confused as everyone on here is telling me to use ice and heat?! Ah, what to do!

| I do know at some point you can alternate ice and heat, but I don't think it is the first day.

| I agree NO HEAT, Advil and ice and maybe a nice easy neck rub.

| Find a Chiropractor. I couldn't live without mine. And use ICE. It is uncomfortable but it does help the pain and reduces swelling. The more it swells the more it is going to hurt. Quote:

| I have off brand Ibuprofen, it's like from the dollar store or somewhere cheap. Should I get the name brand or should it be the same? Thanks ladies!

| I use an off brand all the time and it works as well as the brand name. I hope your neck starts feeling better soon
