I hope they can do something tomorrow. Is there anything at all that you could put for the pain. Iguess I'm grasping at straws here because even Oragel Orajel...might get into her tongue...

Darn, I just hate that it is hurting her. I wish she could just have a restful night and have it looked at in the morning. Poor darling.

They didn't even want her on anything for the pain immediately following the surgery... So I'm sure he wouldn't give her anything now.... but mannnnnn..... I wish!!

You can tell in the live stream that she's getting hungry... I need to feed her, but I'm sooooooooo afraid of making it worse....

It was one thing to feed her with it in the beginning... but now, of course, in order to "put her little face together", they cut and sliced so as to have clean cuts which would heal together properly.... so it's open wounds at this point..... scares me.

Yep, she was hugry... lol

Took 10 minutes and she had 3/10 cc STAT - 1 cc of her formula... and when I was rinsing her mouth, she started lapping up the water, so I went ahead and let her have a cc of fiji water. (I hope water is okay for her!)

Hopefully she'll sleep now.... poor baby...

Awwwww, you should see her..... sneeked up under her "Flamingo Mama" for a nap.

Water is okay, but I wouldn't recommend much of it until she is two weeks old. But right now, anything you can get into her is good. I caught up on everything everyone said, speed reading. Do you have any questions before I hit the sack?

Unless you can tell me exactly what they'll do to my girl at the vet tomorrow.... I suppose not...

Thank you so much for your comments and your concern.... I did read all through little Zacchie's story when I first brought Emma home.... brought tears to my eyes and smiles to my face all at the same time!!

He is such a strong beautiful boy!!!

When I was little we had a pup named Zaccheus as well...... "you come down from there right now!!"..... haha....

I'm afraid if I had read all this a few days ago, my advice would have been to snatch Emma from the docs and run, don't walk away. She should not have had surgery, in my opinion. I wouldn't have known that when Z was E's size, but now I can help others with what I've learned. My advice to you is to let her heal from what's been done, but NO MORE SURGERY. She will learn to suck and swallow just the way she is. She doesn't know she's different. You may have to tube her for a while. I had to do it too, but we made it.

When she is about a year old and fully developed, you may opt for surgery, but until her mouth finishes growing, it will continue to change. Going through surgery is very traumatic and to have it not succede would be almost tragic. My vet is a surgeon, and completely agrees.

My goodness... how can I just leave her little face "half fallen off" like it is? Raw and open?

I don't know.... I think we're already in it this far, I need to let the surgeon take care of her.....

Of course, it's completely up to you, and there's no right or wrong answer in a situation like this. No one can say "this is what you should do." You have to do what you feel is right for her. Open wounds should be closed, I think, but trying to "fix" her mouth is pointless until she is fully developed.
When I was feeding Z, I really had to squeeze the puppy bottle I used to administer the formula. he never sucked, only swallowed. And, like Emma and Tia, he never had his mother's milk.
So her not being able to suck is not a problem, and if she can't swallow, you're going to have to resort to tubing.

She can swallow.... and before her stitches fell apart, she could suckle pretty well... (she tried hard and got good suction... but I'm sure it's pain that would make her release and tire) so I continued to use the dropper... and today also started with a 1cc syringe.

Oh... also, it's not so much her mouth that we're concerned with... I mean, sure - if she can form her mouth properly to suckle better... that's great... but the palate is repaired and her tongue is just fine, so she could still nurse without dealing with the lip problem.... but it's her nasal passage that he wants to repair... right now, it's wide open - no protection.... once he "put her together" we were waiting for that to heal so he could then create the nasal passage, etc.

I don't think you have much choice at this point. This is now an open wound. She can't be left like that. It is much different since she has already had the surgery.

I will be praying for her and you. You just keep on doing what you are doing.....which is the best you can for that baby. I have the utmost confidence in you. God has equipped you because He has called you to it. I believe this with my whole heart.
