Perhaps if you could rig up something soft with a heat source inside it that ticks like a loud clock, or has a sound like a heartbeat she might snuggle up with it and stay there for a bit.
Morning Diane!

We actually have one of those little snuggle puppies with the heat and heartbeat inside, on it's way for Emma.

Winston'sMom was kind enough to want to share a gift with Emma and this is what we've chosen!

I'm positive that Emma will really benefit from having it....

Have to get around and ready to go in to the vet this morning.... will post once I find out what's going to happen!

Thank you for your continued concern!!

What a great idea! Would have given anything for one of those for Zacchie at that age.
Have a safe vet visit. I have to take someone to soccer practice in a bit, so I'll check back in around noon.

Wow! What an amazing & generous person you are! If only there were more people in this world like you. I pray that lil' Emma thrives in your care, and that she is able to possibly get it corrected and live a happy healthy life. Good luck and keep us all posted on the status. Thinking of you both...

I was out early this morning volunteering for the United Way "backpack stuffing" Anyway I was thinking of Emma first thing this morning!
I hope you are back soon to give us an update on how it went at the "Dogtors" today. Maybe you can make some tiny cone forher to wear during the time she's most supervised. I know how much she squirms and wiggles lol

((hugs))

This is excellent advice. Orphaned pups such as Emma will constantly seek out the warmth and comfort of her mother or her littermates. The more laps she takes around that large area trying to find a littermate or mom to cuddle with...she is losing the prescious calories too fast that you put into her every few hours. I agree that until her cuddle buddy arrives..I would restrict her space...just allow her the back half with Momma Flamingo for now. : )

Also...all the rubbing of her face and nose as she crawls around aimlessly may be a contributing factor of the stitches not holding.

This is one lucky puppy to have found you Dena. I hope and pray your vet can once again put this precious little girl's nose back together and it heals with out any more problems.

Great job resticting her area, Dena. Hopefully this will keep her from traveling so far. She will probably still do laps around her smaller space, but at least she won't have far to go.

Hi you guys....

Well.... another hard morning for lil' face over here..... but - the dogtors got her fixed back up as best they could. It was a little tougher than the first time since they had less to work with... so her lil' nose is still going to be pretty "off" and she'll probably always have a lil' crooked smile... but hopefully, once this all heals, she'll still have enough "room" in there to create a functional nasal airway.

It wasn't as much of a traumatic experience for her as last time I don't think... still painful.... still scary for her.... still very stressful - - - but at least the palate is still in tact, so they didn't have to do any adjustments there.

She's home, (as you can see if you've stopped in to visit her) - fed... and resting.

I was so sleepy this morning when I weighed her, that I forgot to weigh her BEFORE her feeding, rather than right after..... so... when I did weigh her - minutes after she fed... she was still at 92 grams.

I weighed her just after returning from the vet's and BEFORE feeding.... and she's down to a pitiful 88 grams.

I left her with my room mate and went back to talk to the doc again.

He says that the trauma and stress is playing hell on her right now.... (of course, I understand that) - - - I showed him a printed out copy of the recipe for the high calorie formula recommended here and told him that this is what I was considering switching her to.

Nope, nope, nope - he said..... absolutely NO adjustments in diet at this point.... <<sigh>> So... she is still getting the formula, the STAT, and small amounts of fiji water when she doesn't take enough of the other... (just to keep her hydrated and her wound clean.) Oh, and I CAN give her a little plain yogurt!! (for the live cultures) and continue giving her the BeneBac

He said that in the weeks to come, I may be able to change her diet, but for now - - no changes... not even minimal...

Stools are watery since we returned home..... stress and upset, I know.... so I'm hoping by this evening that will get better.

THANK YOU for the tips and suggestions.... I have since "revamped" Emma's "space" and have allowed her only a third of the space she originally had - as instructed per previous posts.... (made a "wall" from a large rubbermaid tub and covered it with her blankies) - - - I don't know why I wasn't thinking about this before... of course, it makes absolute perfect sense...

As for a collar to keep her from rubbing..... no luck with that concept.... the nurses and I actually tried to fashion something useful but even with constant supervision, it's just too dangerous.... so we'll just have to hope.

My GOSH this child goes through a lot of laundry!!! hahaha.... I have EIGHT of those lil' pink and yellow flowered blankets you see on the cam.... EIGHT!!! And these are the last two clean ones!!! Those, along with all of her receiving blankets, washcloths, burp towels..... man oh man............... EVERYTHING needs washing!! And I.... need a NAP!!!!

I don't have any Dreft soap so I need to make a dash to the store........ thanks for keeping up with us!!! <<big hugs>>

Oh... here are today's photos of her.... the job is not as aligned as the first time, but again.... less to work with.... (I still think she's beautiful...)

I COMMEND YOU for all the loving and tender nurturing you are providing for baby Emma (Lil Punkin Butt). You have the most GIGANTIC HEART! Without you we all know where she would be right now. So , I hope others will join me in giving you a SUPER HUGE GIGANTIC group HUG. You so deserve it!!
Baby Emma is such an adorable , sweet little doll. All thanks to YOU! I hope she continues to improve by leaps and bounds. I'm sure Emma's journey is going to be tiring and expensive (but so worth it). I know I for one would love to help in anyway I can. If a baby Emma fund comes about you can be sure to count me in. Continued prayers and blessings for you and Emma.

BTW: Is she back to bottle feeding or are you going to let her heal some first?

Thank you so much for your kind words.... but it's little Emma, the dogtors and God who are doing all the work here! I just feel lucky to be able to serve a part in it all....

I've not tried her on the bottle again.... Doc says she should do fine with it, but I can see that just the syringe is a little painful for her, so we're not going to risk any further uncomfort or damage....

I think the dropper and the syringe are what I'll stick with for a while.

Emma is still as beautiful as she can be. You are the perfect Mommy for her. I can't wait to see her with her cuddle buddy.

I'm watching Emma on the live feed and it seems like she's rubbing her face on one of her blankets. Does that mean her stiches or something are bothering her?
Or is she just being her wiggly self?
