| YT 2000 Club Member  |  Shwew, boy did I need that sleep, was up till I can't even remember what time watching Baby Emma. I feel for you Dena, I know you're up and down like a yo-yo right now with her feedings, I hope you're getting enough sleep there to keep you going, can't have you getting sick, all us YTers will have to come hunt you down and take care of you  I wasn't sure if it was normal for the furbabies to lose a lil after they were born or not, I was kinda hoping t was the norm. What does the vet say about her weight loss? I hope she starts gaining soon, she's already so tiny. I had found a recipe on here a long time ago that a gentlemen was feeding a very tiny baby chi, he actually raised sheppherds but a lady contacted him very frantic about a newborn baby chi she had and it wasn't thriving, was losing weight and she couldn't get weight back on it. Her vet suggested a certain formula and that's what she stuck with and the baby still wasn't gaining weight. She found this guys site, he was in the same state and she edned up taking the baby chi to him. He started it on the homemade formula he gave his sheps when he had problems and the baby chi started gaining and thriving like you wouldn't believe. I've been searching through my favorites trying to find that link and still haven't found it yet, if come across it, I'll post it for you, it may be the same ingredients someone here had given you already. The only thing that worries me is messing with her food to much, she's so young and doesn't need any other issues to overcome at this point. Well, I'm off to take a peak at Baby Emma on the live feed. Please give her gentle hugs and kisses from me.

|  Darn it, darn it, darn it!!!! Looks like we're headed back to the vet in the morning....  Emma split her stitches open in her nose / lip ......... poor baby....

| You can tell it bothers her when she starts doin' the face rub in the blankies...... Mannnnnnnnnn................ she's going to have to go through that whole thing all over again!!!!!! I feel so bad for her..... I don't know how to keep her from rubbing like that though when she gets it repaired..... I can't imagine having to use one of those ... what are they called?? E collars??? on such a little girl... she'd strangle herself!! Man, man, man........ :*(

|  Ugh.... so I called a friend who works for a vet... (different one, not Emma's) and she says that best case scenario is they re-do it w/ "better reinforcement" and she does fine.... Worst case.... they re-do it AND surgically implant a feeding tube into her stomach so nothing has to pass through her mouth... better chance of healing.

| I looked as best as I could without hurting her... she's so very tender and cries now when I touch her mouth.... but it looks like the palate is still in tact.... thank God!!!

| You know..... now that I think about it.... wasn't it kind of silly of them to use absorbable stitches in her MOUTH??? Wouldn't they ABSORB much quicker... (like before healing ever took place) if they were wet all the time??? (well, obviously, the answer is YES).... Now I'm kinda' ticked.... Well, maybe that means they can just repair it with "better reinforcement" ("real" stitches) like my friend said..... and she'll be alright... Still hate that she has to endure that again. Please say some prayers.....

| I am going to read all the replies to this thread, but I wanted to save a little time and quick answer you first. I have a cleft puppy named Zaccheus I rescued at five days old. He's a Yorkie. I would be happy to help you with any questions you have. Feel free to PM me. Just know that this is a HUGE undertaking, and not for the faint hearted. You need to feed that puppy every hour, and I don't mean an hour after you end a feeding. Feed EVERY HOUR, ON THE HOUR, EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU HAVE ONLY A TWENTY MINUTE BREAK. Sounds like this one is the same size my little Z was when I got him. Put her in a small basin, on top of a heating blanket covered with a baby blanket or small towel. Then drape another baby blanket or towel loosely over the pup. Put a heating lamp about four feet above the basin. Your hand hovering just over the pup, but under the light should feel very warm, but not hot enough to burn. Do this right away. If your baby does not wake up often enough to feed every hour, wake her up. I kept Zacchie in a pouch next to my heart off and on to keep him stimulated. You can do this. It is a lot of work, and you will literally be weeping with exhaustion by the time you are out of the woods, but if you have the time to put into it, you will reap the benefits. I couldn't love my Z more if he was my human child.
