| Did anyone ever use those "send in your gold" companies? I have quite a few old 14k gold bracelets, rings, and broken necklaces. I always see those commercials where you can send in all your gold, and they will send you a check. Has anyone ever used them? If so, were you satisfied? And can you direct me to their website? Thanks!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Nicole...you're in Joisey ...I am certain there has to be pawn shops up there. Most pawn shops or custom jewelry stores will buy your gold. I sold mine a couple of months ago and got 1500 bucks. And that was when the gold price had dropped. Hold on a sec...I'll get you a link to a site where it lists the daily values. Understand you do not get this amount...the jewelry buyer buys from you..then resells it.

| The sites where you mail jewelry in don't give you hardly anything for what you send them. Listen for commercials from area jewelry stores where they will set up shop in a hotel ballroom and then buy your gold and silver from you. These give you (by far) the largest amount and yes, they take broken jewelry as they are looking to melt the gold to make other things. Prices are different for 10K, 14K and 18K gold, silver is usually almost a giveaway!!!

Nicole sweetie....I KNOW you know better than to believe those commercials....did you fall on your head recently ??? You can find places that'll make an offer face to face rather than 'trust' doing it via mail. Besides - those commercials are so freakin hokey. ps - you can also have custom jewlery made from old/broken jewlery - have you thought of that ?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I went with my Gf to sell gold, she has a true addiction to shopping for jewlery and clothes, I took a few broken chains, a few old rings and a necklace thinking I may get 100.00 I got 400.00. I was so excited. My GF got 1200.00 as she had a lot more. Gold was around 900 at the time which was in May. We went to a pawn shop and they buy it to melt the gold down, they don't really give you anything for the stones.

Senior Yorkie Talker | I just learned something here. I have a broken ring that I was told would cost $225 to repair. Wondering if I could get more selling it and purchase a new one.

| First of all, it's about $800 an ounce (not gram) and usually any private owned jeweler will purchase your gold (even broken)....And yes, they do sell it to the refineries (only jewelers in the trade can sell to a refinery)....And yes, they do make a profit, it's a business, why would they buy it from you if they didn't ! When you sell copper wire , aluminum cans, etc., to the junk yard, they make money, so do jewelers....So, what you can do is, go to a couple of independent jewelers (they weigh it in front of you) and some test it on the spot with acid, let them give you an offer and go to another jeweler and decide who is the best offer !!! We had a jewelry store for 22 yrs and did buy jewelry everyday from customers... And they will not make you jewelry from your scrap gold....It all has to be refined..(maybe they'll tell you that) Different karats of gold have different amount of other alloys, it have to be separated with an extreme high heat ... Hope this info helps in your sale...If you live in Morris County, I can give you the name of the jewelry store we sold and he can help you !!! Just a suggestion...Good luck

YT 500 Club Member | A jewelry store in our town was advertising that they would buy gold. This was earlier in the spring. We didn't have much, but we did okay. However, they did take a cut. Oh well, we didn't use the stuff anyway, and we got a little. We were satisfied. I really trusted the store as they are a local store with a good reputation. Then, come to find out, a kid my daughter baby sat years ago is the one who is now doing the appraising.
