| you can get them for about 4 or 5 dollars in the health food stores if you do it yourself. the sound that it makes in your ears went away as soon as they pull the candle out of your ear. It is really easy to do at home....if it wasnt for the fireat the top of the candle, I would be able to do it myself......I hold it for about the 10 15 minutes it takes, but have to have someone help me put it in and then out. I thought I read back on the internet, that ear candling went back to Roman Egyptian times. Marcerella 02, I so agree with you on prefering this over the water/hydrogen peroxide spray(elephant ear wash system). I build up ear wax quickly. Everybody is different on the amount and how fast they build it up. I didn't feel any pain at all. Like marcerella 02said, just warm relaxing feeling....I first had it done by a massage therapist.

| the hallow sound is only when the candle is in your ear.. you also hear some fizzing and a bit of crackling but that is just the wax breaking up and moving out. I'm a huge wuss but there was nothing unpleasant about it. |

| Ear Candeling Warning Ear candeling does feel good, but please be careful. I have seen some cases in which there was harm to the eardrum and ear canal from too much candeling. By the way, I am a doctor of audiology as my login refers to (auddoc06). The ear wax, or cerumen, serves a vital purpose in our ears and is there for several specific reasons. First, it serves as a natural lubricant for our earcanals so dry skin does not develop in the ear canals. Many suffer with dry skin in the canals and occasional candeling is helpful. Second, cerumen has a natural insect repellant in it that deters insects from entering the ear canal. If there is no cerumen in the canals, insects are more likely to enter the nice dark canal to lay eggs; YUCK. Lastly, the cerumen forms in the canal and slowly migrates from deep inside the canal to the opening of the ear canal and this help keeps debris and other foreign materials from the eardrum. So it is important to have some cerumen in the canal. If the cerumen is blocking the canal, that is when it is time to ear candel or see your Audiologist or ENT for removal of the cerumen. Our standard protocol is once every 3 to 6 months. If you have any furthers questions, regarding ears or hearing please feel free to ask. Dr. Kelly McConnell Audiologist

| I saw it on a morning show awhile back, they said that what comes out of the ear is not actually ear wax...They said that people who do it claim that it is, but in fact it is actually from the candle. Before I saw the show, I had been wanting to do it, but this info was coming from a proponent of ear candling, so I don't know.

| I agree, Marci. I have terrible sinus problems as well...I need some serious help. Have you ever used the Neti-Pot?? The manufacturer of the ear candling product says that the residue is not actually ear wax. He said that it is from the candle. He said that the smoke dries out the moisture in the ear preventing ear infections, etc. The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet » Blog Archive » Spa Treatment Facts

| I have been following this thread to see what the concensus was from people who have done it or had it done. I just recently read (and I'm thinking it was some blurb that came up on AOL something I got in my email from Prevention Their opinion (and I agree.....everyone's got their own) was that it was potentially very dangerous...I can't remember all the particulars, so I'll have to go look for it. It's weird, b/c I'd vaguely heard of it before but didn't know anything about it and read the article just b/c it was kind of interesting. If I can find it, I'll post it in this thread! I'm glad it worked for those who it has worked for...esp. for you Marcerella; I know you've really been suffering with those sinus infections!
