Watermelons have to be one of my favoriet fruits. It's hard becuase no one in my family eats fruits so if I cut a watermelon I better be prepared to eat it all myself and pee all night long.

Lulu used to love watermelon. Last summer she and I ate a lot and I don't know which of us peed more . It was funny because post eating she went to pee and she looked like she got frutrated waiting to finish...she kept looking up at me like ok I should be done now...any minute now (my poor baby).

I think they have the white seeds I cant remember its been a while since Ive had one. We have a walmart that is a grocery store only and they sell them. The meat of it is very red and juicy

Mojo and LG love watermelon too, but I make sure they don't have much...which makes them mad! But they do LOVE watermelon!!

I hate it when watermelon isn't really ripe and they just taste like water. When you cut one and it's a nice dark red you always think oh yummy!

Question......what is the proper way of telling if a watermelon is good?

I remember last year, we picked up one from a road side stand...cut into the next day and it was rotten inside (gushy, smelly, gross).

AND do you keep yours in the refrig. until you are ready to cut into it?

Anyone have any good watermelon recipes....(not to get too far off topic)...but now I am craving a good watermelon!!!

hahahaha I just did a thread on this like 2 weeks ago! I LOVE watermelon, but I LOATHE those little white seeds more than the regular seeds. Guess Im going to have to start buying seeded watermelon. I have NO idea why they call it seedless.. stupid!

Good questions Jenn. I'm not sure how to tell if they are ripe enough though.

If it's a whole melon I keep it out of the fridge until I cut it. I haven't seen any good recipes but I do make a great fruit dip using vanilla pudding, cream cheese, cool whip and some powdered sugar all mixed together. It's a great fruit dip

That seriously made me burst out laughing at work!!!!!!! Toooo funny!!!!! Poor lulu sooo confused on why she is peeing so often and for so long!!!

Ok .. I am generally a good watermelon picker outter. I tap it with an open hand and listen to the sound.... it is a rich thump sound.... hard to explain.

After I cut my melons, I keep them in the frig. And the best recipie I have for watermelons is to buy one cut it open and dive in

Ha A good "watermelon picker outter", huh? A "rich thump"...boy, I am in trouble?! Okay, seriously, I've only had one not so fresh watermelon, so I must be doing a good job. Whew!

I remember someone saying something about you can tell by their "bottoms"!? I have no clue...maybe if they are too yellow or something? I have no clue!

That is how we eat them here....just thought I might expand our watermelon horizons w/ fun recipes!

I had oysters at some restuarant and they used watermelon juice and small slice of watermelon top of them, wow!!! they were awesome! (if you like raw seafood)

Other than that... Id try making a watermelon martini or daquiri There ya go!

Oh yeah and I JUST finished eating watermelon! I buy a whole one once a week! Its just me! Im the only one who eats it! hahahaha Imagine how much I pee?? LOL

I've had it before...but I shy away from a lot of salt (I don't have high blood pressure, but just watch my salt intake)....NOW, my MIL will put salt on hers and she also puts black pepper on her cantalope! I always joke w/ her and tell her that fruits are suppose to be sweet....not salty!

I am sooooooo getting a watermelon tomorrow!!!

I wonder if you can chunk it up and freeze some of it? Might make a good "watermelon ice" treat?
