Yes, this is New York City and I'm sure you are used to it but after living in Ohio for many years, I kinda chocked. I hope you will be able to get that same lady or I would wait for her. Id'd say 15 or 20% which ever you think best. Be sure to let us see pictures

Well, interesting timing, because I have an appt in 30 min for a cut and highlight (3 different colors - blonde, caramel, and red). While I understand there are differences in regional pricing, I still think it's crazy. It's the same supplies and in many instances the same experience. That would be hard to pay without the guilt making my hair stand on end.

Mine'll be between $100-$150.

wow!!! I want before and after pictures!! My haircut and blowdry/style is $75 and I give her a $20.00 tip... she's awesome with my hair!

You are in NY and prices are sooo different!

I went to NY on vacation two years ago and I said I was going to get my hair done at a salon that specializes in naturally curly hair and I didn't care how much it cost me.
It's called Ouidad and I had been ordering their products for years! The haircut, just a haircut was $150.00. I tipped 15%, same as I do in Ohio.
It was expensive, but I don't regret it, it was a neat experience!

I've only done them once before and i loved them! I like them to look very natural, not streaky at all, she put low and beachy highlights and when it grew out it still looked very natural, im doing the same this time just a little blonder on the high lights, last time i did it a little darker cause i was scared it was going to look too dramatic lol i have pics from last time somewhere on my comp

id say however good the service was... so since you are already spending so much and even though the cost is high.. she probably highlights the same way anyone else who charges $50 do.. so id say $30-40 and thats if you really liked her

yea...i was wondering bc usually people with darker hair can go longer withough getting highlights. i have bleach blonde hair and get mine done every 4 weeks like clockwork(would every 3 weeks if i could afford it) and i pay 130....but i know all about finding someone you love, so if you love them and can afford it i say stick with it!

It's about $200+ around here and i can't afford that.

My sister in law told me about her friend that lives an hour away in a smaller town and charges $75!

She does a great job! I've given her a $30 tip because i don't think she charges enough so that's like 40% LOL but she's saving me so much money!

I think if you appreciate the job they do, you would want to tip well.

So I think it will be less than $400 after all because i am getting it cut somewhere else, somewhere cheaper and im excited!

It should be $250 or more for the highlights alone, hopefully only 250

All I can say is that is a lot of money for highlights...that is a car payment...YIKES! Hightlights must look great for that kind of $$$. The most I have ever paid is 60.00.

My daughter lives in NY and had highlights done for $250... I was in NY at the end of March and I didn't really even notice them.... She was just here in Missouri in May and she likes the way my hair looks so she went to "my guy"... she paid $100 for haircut, highlights (they look great.. and she LOVED them!) and had her eyebrows waxed... she tipped him $25 because she was SO HAPPY!

She said something like "who knew I could get my hair done in Missouri??"... I guess she will be back!!

I have owned my own hair salon for 23 years. I would love to get $400 for a cut and highlights......(and I use top of the line products...ie Goldwell). However, my area those services go for only a fraction of that. Over the years I have had the chance to meet and work with many "top notch" stylists...including Nick Arrojo from "What Not To Wear", he does the same kind of work as the rest of us, only markets himself differently. I HATE that too! At the icecream place I go to on occassion they have one.. I'm like.. seriously? All you did was put a scoop of icecream on a cone, you expect me to tip for that?

Whats next, tipping the cashier that rings up your groceries? IMO tip cups are in EXTREMELY bad taste and the owners of the businesses shouldn't allow them.
