How much to tip.. I posted this in the wrong section. It's off topic so im posting it here anyway. I am planning on getting highlights and where i go it's like $400 but i've only been there once before. My bf says im supposed to pay 15-20%, is that right? So if it's $400 do i give like $70 extra or what? Does anyone know cause i want to tip right lol, thanks! |

When I did get my hair done at the salon; now my friend does it; I tip'd $5-$10 if I was impressed with her work and it cost me about $60 to get highlights. I dont know if that helps or not but good luck! |
Thanks! Yea, it's a lot but i really like how they do hair, it's at Pierre Michels, however u spell it and i have really long hair so that's how much they charge, depending on who does it. |
I am a stylist si when I saw the $400.00 I am Like :eek::eek: I wanna have that stylists job LOL I would say if you are happy with what she does, Tip what you feel comfortable. most high lights at my shop run $70 to $100. Most tip $10.00 $20.00. BTW I want pictures;) |
Wow! I bet they will look great. (They better look great anyway!) I have no idea how much to tip in that situation because I've never paid for than about $80 for anything that was done to my hair. Do you know anyone else who goes there you could ask? Is there a shampoo girl you can get the info from? |
I just wanted to say wow that is a lot for highlights! My hairdresser only charged me 45.00 and that was to get it cut, styled and highlights. i never give tips though, and her other clients don't either. hmm |
I was going to ask the same question! I'm getting highlights next week too, and I think you tip 15 (ish) percent. Mine better not cost $400!!! I bet your hair will turn out beautifully! |
No I know absolutely no one else that goes there lol I would try a new place but im really worried that they will mess up my hair, the only reason i tried P. Michels is cause i read great reviews on it, i loved how they did my hair that time and it ended up being expensive but i figure for color and a haircut ill pay that so long they dont mess up my hair. I'm really picky about my hair..i wish i knew a less expensive place that does great highlights but i dont |

Check this out How Much Should You Tip? What customers do: In Aveda's informal poll, the lowest tip was 10 percent and the highest was 25 percent, but most women said they stick to 20. In and around big cities, the percentage was more generous, even though the services cost more. Women with supershort hair, which they get cut and colored every four to six weeks, don't always give a huge tip because their annual beauty bill is so high to begin with. Stylists in some small-town beauty shops, however, report 15 percent as the norm. Those who work in mall or drop-in hair salons, and are less likely to have a loyal clientele, sometimes get tips of even less. Hair do's and don'ts of salon etiquette: iVillage Beauty & Style |
They have about eighteen stylists. Fifteen colorists. Good thing you aren't going for a Japanese straightening. That's 700.00  Please. Pretty please. Post Before and After photos. ;) Check it out here: Pierre Michel Salon ~ Hair & Beauty |
I usually tip 20% when I get my hair highlighted and cut. Gotta love those NYC prices, huh? |
We don't have to tip here in the UK, Although there are times that I choose to. But if you don't it's accepted. If I get great service in a restaraunt I always tip,as it goes to the waiter or waitress who have worked hard to serve me well. When I go to the hairdressers, it costs me alot of money to get mine and my daughters hair done anyway, so I don't tip. I don't tip for a taxi ride (cab). It's daft to me set a price and pay the price, end of. |

Have fun & please post your results! I'm really interested in seeing how it turns out! I bet it'll be just fabulous! |
Wow. I LOVE NYC, but I would have to win the lottery in order to live there. |
