I don't know much about the breed so I'm not going to bash them. I have heard stories about them. But IMO, I would never own a bigger attack dog with yorkies.

Right with you there. We owned them in the past and my dad still owns one. Hubby is wanting a blue so we might be owning one again one day.

As with any type of dog you chose to introduce you need to check the parents and check his/her temperment. All sizes of dogs attack.

Unpredictable!!!!! One of my sons had a brindle female and she was very sweet with people and very well trained, but had to be watched around real small dogs. They could never let her off leash.
My other son got a Pit/Lab and she was the most mellow sweetest girl around people of all ages including babies and all animals. They named her Melody because of her mellow personality. They got her very well trained and she continued getting lots of exercise and socialization. When she turned 5 years old, she started being aggressive with any dog. They had to stop bringing her here which was sad because she loves her "grandma and grandpa".

One of the few dogs that actually should be banned from breeding/selling. The are a dangerous breed and should absolutley not be sold into the hands of John Q public. Most people are not equiped to handle a pit nor do they care enough to take responsibility for it. There are only a few other breeds(Cane Corso for example) that this should apply to.

I know this is a blanket statement, but I personally dont like the breed and there is no reason to keep breeding these aggressive animals.

I know for sure in Alberta they are totally banned. I knew a friend who have had them and said they are very gentle, I guest that is why the dog turned on her and she put it down…

Two words pop into my head: Controversy and Misunderstood.

This kind of discussion drives me nuts. Everyone is set in their own mind for their own reason and no one is budging.
My opinion is that one breed of dog cannot be put together to be judged. Its like saying all Chis are snappy, all yorkies are yappers. Or, to get more personal, saying all Mexicans are illegal, all rich people are snobs, all African Americans are hoodlums, etc. One whole group/breed/race cannot be judged based on the deeds or actions of the others within it.

I disagree with anyone who feels that they are a breed that should be banned! Like all animals big or small anywhere from yorkie to pitbull to rottweiler they can all turn on you! It is all how you breed and raise them.
People that think they are mean killers and should not be breed do not fully know the breed. They get a bum rap! because they are big but if you raise them right they truely are gentle giants!!

Any breed dog can turn on their owner, but it is not usually done in the horrendously aggressive nature as the pit bull. I have seen Chows break through the screen door of the living room in order to tear apart a 10 week old labrador that was being walked on a leash by the owner. I have had 3 Shar-pei live next to me and they were so agressive that I could not touch my own fence. I live next to two Rotts and a golden retriever that I am just waiting for them to get out and bite an unexpecting child. The golden is being taught by the Rotts. I do not consider any of these breeds "gentle giants". They are more likely an accident waiting to happen. I think its amazing how the wonderful family pet pit bull that would never harm a fly suddenly, out of the blue, attacks the owner, a child or another small family pet. Isnt there a new thread on here about a Yorkie getting killed by a pit?

from my experiences and what I have seen, I am afraid of them and would never let one next to my children or small dog. I saw my cousins chi get killed right in front of me by a pittbull in a park...attacked him while my cousin had him walking on the leash and proceeded to walk around the park(that was full of children) with the dog hanging from his mouth. Now you guys can say Im wrong for judging all pitts by that one incident but believe me it was enough in my eyes. My neighbor had a puppy (pitt) so cute and loving she has 3 daughters, everything was fine until one day the dog tries to attack the youngest child. This dog was raised with the little girl, in a nice loving home...still went to attack her. Thank god nothing happen but now the pitt...is gone. I would never trust it...never

I'd also like to point out that there are A LOT of breeds that look strikingly like pit bulls, but aren't actually pit bulls. I know the breed kind of well, and I took a quiz a while back. It showed pictures and it was like "Is this a pit bull - Yes or No?" and I was SHOCKED at how many I thought were pit bulls that weren't. There are a LOT of people who see big dogs that look somewhat like pits, so they go off saying that a "pit did ____" and it may not have been a pit in the first place.

PS - I've seen nasty pits too. When I was younger I was walking my old lab - Rusty - and a pit bull (and I'm positive that it was a pit bull) attacked him on the owners' command. So I've seen the good and bad side of pit bulls. I've met a lot more sweet pit bulls than I have nasty ones. In fact, I've only met 1 nasty one - the one that went after Rusty. and that was ENTIRELY his owner's fault.

I have one more thing to add (do I ever stop talking? lol ). Any breed has the ability and instict to kill and seriously injure. Pit Bulls are STRONG dogs, which is why they tend to do more damage. Anything can set off any dog - a dirty diaper, another dog, a LEAF blowing by that scares them. There are posts on here all the time "My yorkie goes insane every time I put a hat/mask/whatever on" and its soooo cute and soooo funny because they're small and they can't do any serious damage to grown people. Well, pits and rotties, etc., can also freak out and get scared when their owner puts on a hat/mask/whatever, but its not sooo cute and sooo funny because they ARE big and strong.
