| Wow, I'm not sure what to say or tell you but if you part with her, perhaps she'd make a good candidate for police work. She sounds very very smart. I'm not kidding with having her work as a police dog. maybe you can contact someone who can put you in that direction. She just may need that kind of stimulation. Elaine |

| Can you contact a german shepard rescue to take her? I would hate for her to be put down. Maybe they could find somebody who could take time and train her/rehabilitate her (and I don't mean that negatively towards you/please don't take it that way). I also wonder about those collars that shock if the dog goes outside of its area. What a hard situation.

| Wow Maureen, you sure do have your hands full. I have no advice to offer that hasn't already been mentioned...a country home, with plenty of room to roam...a job, either police work or something like that...give the dog a purpose. But I have to give you credit...you've tried, there is no doubt in my mind that you'll find the answer to this perplexing problem. I too am sending you a much needed "HUG". Good luck to you both!!!

| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | She might be a good candidate for the police academy or maybe teach her some damn tricks and she can be the next chris angel. You can be rich as hell since she seems able to get out of anything.

| Sounds like this is a very intelligent dog that really needs someone who can give 100% of their time. In fact this dog needs a job...this kind of breed as well as several others will act this way when they are bored. So many end up in shelters or worse put down because people unlike you have given up on them. I think you are amazing sticking it out this long! Don't feel bad about what you have done at all, but maybe use your energy in finding something useful for this dog to do. Not sure how dogs are recruited for police work...search and rescue, or even narcotic work but I would give it try. Good luck!

| My Little Man! Donating Member | Wow, I just read your story and omg no wonder you are so upset! It seems like you are going throu a lot of frustration. Ah but how sweet it is that she didnt want to leave you alone at petsmart and wouldnt let anyone to touch her I would also do the same thing you did, take her home. Maureen, it seems like she needs some behaviorist, I know you sent the email to Ceasar Milan I just really really hope he answers you back. Sending you a big big hug Wow and I thought I had frustrating 2 weeks when I was babysitting Maxi's cousin, she wasnt trying to destroy things thou but was always challenging me and it felt like 24/7 regular job and I thought I was going crazy. But after reading your post wow is all I can say. Maybe she needs more than those regular runs? I know I take Maxi for long long walks, run with him and still when we come home he is still very very active and want to play. I dont know what else to suggest I hope everything works out

My goodness. Everyone is right!! You, my dear, are a saint!! And even after all of what you've been through - to be able to still show sooo much compassion for the big houdini! It truly warms my heart. I agree with all advice. She needs a lot of specific things in her environment for her to be happy. You know that she's not happy as she's destroying things. That is not the sign of a happy (or balanced, as Cesar would put it) dog. You are at a turning point. You've made the first and hardest step (I know, I've done it) in deciding that a change is in order. Now it's simply sorting through the options that are best for her. God Bless You!!

| My heart goes out to you and your Shepard. My dtr had a Huskie Malmute mix that was the same way. We called her Reggie Houdini, she always ate her way out of where ever you put her when she was home alone. The vet told her it was separation anxiety. She was fine when someone was home with her, but hated being Home Alone You've received alot of good advice, hope all works out for both of you. I was hooked on German Shepards before I got hooked on Yorkies. Good Luck! |
