I agree totally with Megan. I had a LARGE german shepherd years ago....by "having" it, I mean that my sister told me about this GS "puppy" that needed a home while I was at my mom's. At the time, my ex-dh and I lived in a small rental and there was virtually no backyard. I told my sister I wish I could take it, but I couldn't. My mom piped up with "Well, you could keep it here until you guys find a bigger place with a yard"....my mom had a small GS female at the time. So I said "sure"....so basically, it lived with my Mom... the dog turned out to be about 30" tall and very very big! Anyway, my mom started saying that "my" dog would run along the fenceline all night long (the back of her house was on a busy main street), and "made" her dog do the same thing, and her dog was rapidly losing weight. That was one issue. So my mom started putting "my" dog into the garage at night so they couldn't do that...well, the dog ate a hole in the garage wall and got out anyway...... My mom found a man who had wanted a GS for a long time, he had lots of land for it to run on and he just adored the dog and he took it with him everywhere......so, it's not b/c it's a bad dog, it's just not right for you. I honestly can understand what you've been going thru though, I had a parrot who was as destructive, and even though I never answered my front door to him standing there, it wouldn't have surprised me a bit . Good luck to you!

| Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | you guys talking about Valium gave me another idea. Have you ever heard of a DAP Diffuser? Its used for dogs with anxiety problems. DAP stands for Dog Appeasing Pheromones. The pheromone used is the one that a lactating mother releases which gives the puppies a sense of well-being i believe. check it out: http://www.healthypets.com/dapdogappher.html they also come in a collar form.

| We had a Jack Russell terrier that acted the same way after my husband got sick. Before my hubby was sick, he could play with the dog, they went for long walks, and things were fine. The dog had loads of energy, but we could handle him. After my hubby developed heart failure and had trouble getting from the bed to the chair, all that changed. I had my hands full working fulltime and taking care of my hubby and my elderly mom who also lives with me. When my hubby would have to be in the hospital or we would be out of the house for any length of tim, the dog would go NUTS doing all the things you mentioned. We knew we couldn't let him destroy the house and we couldn't keep him in the back yard. We contacted the Jack Russell terrier rescue group and our JTR ended up going to the Navy to be a drug detection dog on the ships. We knew he was just upset that my hubby was sick, but we just couldn't handle him and he needed a JOB! We felt horrible that we had to give him up, but we had no choice. It sounds like you don't either.

| I haven't read any other comments yet but the only thing I can think of is to purchase an outdoor kennel completely enclosed with chain link and I would pour a cement foundation so she can't dig out. I don't blame you a bit for your frustration, you can't have a dog that is destroying your house and now endangering your other dogs. It's not like your going to leave her out there all of the time. At least this way she'll have a safe place to be when you have to be gone. Good luck!

| All I can say is "WOW"!!!! What a Dog! There probably are people who would love to have a dog as "smart", "clever", "mischievous",....oh, I just don't know what to call it...trying to stay away from the negative...the poor thing. One can only imagine what her upbringing was before you came to get her. I would Love to see Cesar Milan tackle this......can we go on his website and apply??? I think this would definitely be a challenge for him. I know it's hard because like most of us, it's hard to have animals that you feel you have to use so much restraint with...I'm such a softie but even us softie's can only take but so much.....Kudos to you for sticking it out and trying everything you possibly could...good luck in whatever you decide. .....now, for Cesar Milan's website, hmmmm????

| A farm or somewhere that the people that would take her had alot of land for her to just run and roam and get all that energy out. Sounds like your house and everything in it has took the bunt of her energy. I am an animal lover and will just about tolerate anything because I get to feeling sorry for them, but this would drive me nuts too. I feel for you. Sounds like you need to rehome her soon and like I said maybe someone will take her where she can run and be too wore out to tear up anything. Good luck. |

| I agree that it sounds like she should be in a place more suitable to her situation. It does not make you a bad person! And on the other hand, it does not make her a bad dog...I would start contacting rescues to get their advice, maybe they have dealt with this situation before and know a place she can be rehomed more suitable to her needs...
