Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | 1st encounter with a PITT Bull at my new apt Everything is fine but man ....I was walking the girls yesterday and always keep an eagle eye out for loose dogs - most people here are very good about leashes but the other day - a BIG BLACK Pitt Bull spotted us at the same time I spotted her (her name was Alley) she had NO LEASH ON. She flew across the street to get at Chanel and Cheri and did NOT have a happy "I want to play' face.....She had that 'I'm gonna get you face' on. I scooped the girls up FAST and held them high up and tight across my chest and just turned my back to the charging dog (who's 'person' was running far behind yelling her name) and not making much progress. by the time the lady caught up with the pitt - she'd been jumping me trying to get to the girls - I just stood perfectly still and kept turning so my back was to her ....but MAN - I was just WAITING for that BITE outta my butt or arm - but ...thank God - she didn't but - she sure was trying to knock me down .....and yes I RATTED that woman out to the apartments. I don't know if she was a resident or visitor - but NO big dog should be running around unleashed. My neighbors next door have the sweetest pitt. (2 guys and very hot lol) ! His name is 'Snake' I was terrified at first but I've now been around him enough to see he is very non agressive and a big sweetie..... I still don't really let the girls around him - especially since Chanel barked RIGHT IN HIS FACE and scared him. We have 'distance' meets - but thats all. When I hang out with the guys - I put the girls in the apartment - but he's a very nice well mannered pitt. That lady with the black pitt should have been fined for letting her dog run free -- and IF I had the chance - a smack upside her head for letting her dog go leash-less - if I hadn't seen it coming I could easily have a tragedy and I would NOT recover from something like that. Anyway - I just wanted to share it - what could have been really bad turned out ok - I think it was me standing perfectly still and not moving that saved the girls. If I'd have reacted or acted scared - I really thinlk 'Alley' would have started biting....I didn't actually feel scared till I got back to the apartment.....then I was pissed - because of that - the girls had NO walk that night. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ps - when I called my apartment manager - she was really upset - She asked if I'm the woman with the 2 cute dogs out at 7:30 am and I said yes - She asked me - were they wearing DRESSES ? I told her yes they were harness dresses (by Connie) and if needed I can lift them up in the air by their leashes ....they're that well made LOL then I said - "so you can see why I'm upset right ? ....2 small dogs in dresses VS a huge charging Pitt Bull - you DO see what the outcome could have been right ?" and she said yes and would check to see who has a pitt by that name living here and make sure they have the dog leashed at all times. I really hope this gets followed up on. I'm thinking of getting some mace to attach to my wrist when we go for walks - anyone know where I can find that ? |

| V, I'm thankful none of you were hurt! I'm terrified of unpredictible dogs that I don't know. My DIL always tells me, don't look at them, don't run, just keep walking! That just isn't easy when you know that vicious thing is behind you and you're expecting to feel those teeth at any second!! You certainly did the right thing reporting it. I can't understand how people can ignore rules ... do they think they are made just because someone is sitting around bored and decides to make them??

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Wow, that's scary. Thank God you saw him first and reacted quickly. That was very brave of you. I'll bet your spy girls will be telling all the neighbor dogs about how their alpha mama saved them from a mean ol' pit bull.

and Alaska dad - no hero here - it was sheer determination - That dog was NOT going to get my girls and if I had to take the bites... I was ready - it hit me later on how bad it could have been......my grandmas poodle was mauled & killed right in front of her eyes years ago and there's no way I could survive that after losing my husband....the girls are all I have left and protective instinct took over

that was kind of scary and you're right on when you said "you're expecting to feel those teeth at any second" - I WAS !! I kept muttering 'get your dog lady - get your dog lady" but that's about all I could muster LOL....I swear - she had NO control over her dog - - she was dragging her by the collar but the dog kept trying to get 'back' to my girls.

| Oh V, I'm so glad that you and the girls are ok. You did the right thing by not running with them. You are so brave. I hope the manager follows up with the owner.

| V - Thank God you and the double C's are all right! God, I'm so scared of pitts! It sounds like the manager is going to follow thru with this. I hope so. You should be able to walk Channel and Cherie whenever you want to without fear from big dogs. Take care, girlfriend!

| OMG, V, my heart was in my throat reading your post! So glad you and the girls didn't get hurt! That happened to me once when I had just 2 babies, now that I have 3 I don't dare take them out alone

after reading Bettyannes post about Mace in a holster - I can just see it. Me & my gun holster walking the girls in their frilly dresses - maybe I should wear boots AND a cowboy hat ??? that's quite the image LOL I think I'll try for something that attaches to my wrist - my hands were very occupied holding the girls but if something is on your wrist maybe it's easier to get to ??? But thank you B - I'm headed to Carter Country for some mace tommorrow !

Having 2 is way easier to pick up than 3 so I do see your point. If I had three dogs I probably would have just crushed them to me - The girls werent scared one bit - but then - I didn't do any yelling either - I hardly spoke to the woman - I just waited till I couldn't see them any longer then carried the girls home.
