Good luck. I like the idea of REAL film or someone who has "been there". I applaud you for what you are doing. Even if you only reach one person, that has helped.

I agree with what everybody else is basically saying -
You have to drive the message home. No pun intended.

The old film teaching aids and reenactments are comic fodder now.

Kids today don't get enough REAL life. On the contrary, they think 'reality TV' is real!

All the suggestions that introduce real events, real emotion, real devastation is the only things these kids today can relate to.

Though we would like to shield our children from anything that upsets them and keeps them innocent, this action only serves to make them vulnerable to that from which we are attempting to prevent.

And then there are the things we SHOULD purposely expose them to. As previous witnesses have testified, some trauma early in life is beneficial.

Wow, Rhonda, that's a daunting task you have. What you are doing is soo important, though I agree it can be really difficult to get through to teenagers. I remember when I was in high school all of that stuff hit me really hard but I would see other kids just laugh and talk and be rude.

If you reach one kid then I call it a success. Good luck, I think other posters have given some great ideas!

Have a mother and her baby in your crash. I guess you have to use a doll, but make it look real... Have the mother still alive but not the baby and have the mother screaming... that will wake every one up. THey do this mock crash at my daughters high school They had it look like her class mates had gotten in an accident and died. She was crying really hard. Hope you get it figured out where it will reach the kids...

A few years before I reached high school, a popular local boy killed his best friend in a drinking and driving accident. When I was in high school he came to speak about what his life was like after he killed his friend. Wow! I like to have a good time and that usually means having a drink (or several). But in high school and to this day, 12 years later, I refuse to drink and drive.

the town I raised my children in, (very small town) every year about 1-2 weeks before prom they brought in a car that was just totally destroyed with a sign that said "(blank #) of people were killed in this drunk driving crash. It was parked right in front of the school and just sickening to look at...you couldn't tell it was a car, just a twisted pile of metal. I thought it was a good visual aid. Good Luck!! If you cause even 1 person to rethink drinking and driving your efforts were worth it!!

ok =] i can almost be helpful here In our town high school, there is a club called S.A.D.D. its Students Against Drunk Driving. they make HUGE posters and hang them all over the school. one of the gigantic posters hanging in the lunchroom was someone in a black cape thing with a black hood on to represent death, and they drew a tombstone, and had the dead person's 'friends' sign it saying things like 'sorry i didnt stop that last drink you had' and 'sorry i didnt try to take the car keys from you' (my brothers went there last year and 2 years ago, so i went there a lot) . MANY similar posters hang in the gym theater etc. on one day a year, they have the members dress up in black and walk around the school to indicate the dead teenagers. while they are walking, other members make up stories about how they died and how everyone felt. they use their peers' names so it has more affect.
