| What a night...poor Rusty! (graphic) I know most of you don't remember the story of Rusty, but he is such a big part of our lives...... RustySm.jpgRustySm1.jpg We live on over 30 acres and the big dogs are free to roam...as we live WAY out in the woods. Anyway, they had been in most of the day yesterday and then it started snowing really hard, so they wanted to go outside...they love the snow. Well, it was about 30 minutes later, they were scratching on the door to come in. Rusty (and the other two) were sooooo hyper (as always) licking, playing, wanting to "shake", etc. So, when I went to give them a treat, Rusty turned around and I saw this!!!! DSCF7129s.jpgDSCF7130s.jpg I know, I know....how did I miss that??!! I have no clue!!! Anyway, we still do NOT know what caused it....he has been at the vets and we get to pick him up later this afternoon! --Maybe they will have some answers! At first, I thought maybe it was a wild animal because we have tons of them around here...wild boars, moutain cats/lions, bears, or a dog...but then we thought if that was the case, the other two would have fought with it too and be hurt. I thought maybe he got stuck in a fence?! I just don't know...anyway, he must have been in shock or something because he didn't act like it bothered him at all. It wasn't really deep...but looked like it was cut right under the skin/hair line! We just have NO clue as to what could have done this!! Poor little guy! Sorry for the graphic pictures.....

| oh my!! I hope he's OK.. that doesn't look like anything an animal could do! Plus his face is all clean and the rest of his body.. maybe there was a piece of wire of something sticking out somewhere? I'll check back later He's gorgeous by the way!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | OMG poor rusty. Hope he feels better soon. Poor baby. Maybe a piece of a fence or a piece of tree that had fallen. Those bastards can be sharp where they break off.

That is what we were thinking..that if he had fought w/ something, he would be hurt all over...and the other dogs would too. They rarely go by our road --which is a dead end gravel road w/ only a few houses past us. But there were two trucks that I know of that went by while they were outside...but I don't think he got ran over because he wasn't muddy or hurt anywhere else. DH said it looked like something sharp like a big knife or blade but that would mean that someone would have had to do that or that he got under some farm equipment or something! I just do NOT know! AND it isn't that we don't watch our big dogs...we do...and they are spoiled rotten and pretty well behaved and pretty well trained....so I just don't know! I am hoping the vet might be able to help us figure out something. I am just sickened!

| OH WOW!!! POOR RUSTY BABY!!! It just LOOKS soo painful! Im glad hes at the vets now being all taken care of! I hope the vet can shed some light on what might have happened! Maybe you should check out the fence and see if you see blood or fur on it anywhere. I hope Rusty gets extra treats for being such a good boy!

| Thanks everyone We are just worried and confused as to what could have done that. I mean, the nearest house to us is Rustys previous owners..and although, they are whacko's, I know they couldn't do something to harm him....so I do not think it was caused by someone...or I hope not. We have equipment and things around here, but they have never been hurt EVER before....although, just thinking...they love to "hunt"...moles, squirrels, rabbits, rats, etc....so maybe they are hunting and he got under something and got caught up in it or something And you all know me...I get so freaked out about one of the dogs being hurt, so I made sure he went to the bathroom and it was all clear, I made sure he ate and would drink (that was good, didn't throw up) and watched his breathing (that was normal)...I mean, he didn't even act like anything was wrong. I bet this morning, he was pretty sore....I don't know what all the vet has done to him....oh the wait!! It is painful!!

| I don't know yet Kyle....the vet hasn't called back yet....On Fridays, she usually comes in later....but she should be there by this time. I haven't heard from DH either....he gave them is number as the primary one on this matter - even though they have my cell and the house numbers too. - Rusty has become his buddy.....you should have seen him last night! DH did walk most of the fences and the road looking for blood and fur...he didn't find anything......course, he had been snowing really really hard. It is nice today, so I might get out w/ my cell (if it will pick up in the woods) and walk around to see if I can see anything. DH was thinking it had to be something sharp because it was a straight cut - not sliced down into his skin, but slice up his back under his hair. There is two places that are vertical cuts (where the hair is gone).... I just don't know....it just hurts me to think of it!
