I am glad Rusty is OK. Reading what the vet said, I can see how that would be "minor." Obviously you can see it better than I can, but from the pictures it looks like just the top layer of skin was cut, and he didn't hit anything major (like all the tissue you see inside of it). I think it would have been "major" if that had been cut.

Regardless, I bet it hurt a lot and I'm sure you're going to give him lots of love!

The thing that intrigues me is that the cut is perpendicular to the direction he would have been traveling (unless he walks sideways), so I doubt it was being caught on a fence or something. It's almost like he stood up under something sharp (or was hit by a dull guillotine LOL). Whatever happened it sure must have hurt! Glad there wasn't any serious damage.

It's amazing what these labs get into. I have three of them. When they were younger they were running around the house and playing and I looked in the living and there was blood everywhere! I have cream carpet mind you. I checked the dogs over and one of them either inside or when they were out had pulled three of thier nails completely off! I have never seen so much blood! never bothered him though

It looks like some one did this to your poor baby. We had crazy neighbors and they poisoned both our dog when I was a kid. We used to let them run in the woods behind our house. They poisoned steak and gave it to them. The vet saved both dogs but one was never right after that. The vet told my mom poisoned steak was what it was....

You have crazy neighbors and as much as you hate to think people couldn't do this... they could and do! Just keep it in mind, I could be wrong but it looks too clean, to sharp a cut.

I'm so sorry this happened to Rusty, but I'm glad it was "minor" = although from where I'm sitting it doesn't look minor! Hope he's back to his old self soon.

Ouch! It looks like he got caught in a fence or cut by a knife or something! I hope it doesn't hurt him anymore! At first from far i thought maybe another animal had gotten him but up close it looks too straight , like a slice. Where do they walk around? Is it fenced in?

I will either post pictures tonight (if I get them resized) or in the morning.

DH is NOT happy w/ the vet...said that she was an idiot...didn't even tell him about the meds or anything...he had to ask about everything! Then, she didn't give him his rabies shot.....anyway....it was a $300 vet bill and apparently she did surgery because that portion of the bill was $200....he is bandaged up and we have to go back in on Wednesday to take some sort of drainage tube (?) out...I have no clue...I wish I would have been the one to pick him up. Anyway, they gave him antiboitics and pain meds...he is still a little out of it tonight. Pain meds go down to half a pill tomorrow....that will help.
