Anyone have a funny moving story ?

ok...so, I was single for a LONG time. let me just start out by saying that and one of my close friends is involved with "Surprise Parties". those are "girl" parties. or "sex toy" parties as some will call them well, needless to say, I ended up with a few "toys". (I hope there are no kids reading this ) Well, my best friend, who is a guy...was coming to help me put a bed together. I had NO tool other than the hammer I bought so I could hang things up so he came over to help me. I was joking around with him because this was a new wrought iron bed and I said "sweet...now I will have a place to hang these.." and I pulled out some fuzzy hand cuffs. He was in stitches laughing. I tried convincing him that I had never used them but had them because my friend gave them to me and I thought they were funny. he didn't buy it...but I WAS being honest Well, he was playing around with them and I snatched them up and said "ok, enough goofing off, time to get this bed done!!" so I took the handcuffs and threw them in the drawer to my night stand. suddenly we heard "Bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

yep...throwing those in there triggered a vibrating sound LOL

I was mortified and was trying to find it and turn it off!!!! I was SOOOOOO embarrassed. I had no idea what to say. neither of us did. I just walked out of the room and went and got something to drink LOL

a few days later, he was coming over to move something else into the house for me and he came to get my key from me at work. he said "nothing is going to start vibrating will it???" again..I was mortified. This was the first mentioning of the "incident". LOL now, it is a common joke among me and my friends...even tho it was several years ago LOL

ok....now I'm embarrassed again

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!! I found handcuffs today - no lie !!! They went straight to the trash too - but in my case - nothing went vibrating and if it had I probably would have loved it (KIDDING !!)

When my dad came over to help me fix my boo-boo he took me over to Home Depot and bought me a tool box (with a can of purple spray paint) and picked out all the tools that I would need for future "home improvement projects" and he showed me how to use each tool. The most important tool was this crazy device called a "stud finder". And no, it did not help me find a man.

Redvet...you are in my thoughts. I cant even begin to imagine your loss. But I bet he's smiling down at you believing in every move you make!

one of our tenants did something similar...sorta...he came to me and said "we need a plumber FAST". oh dear,..this was a brand new house so I was kinda freaking out hearing that. he said "I was hanging up my flat tv on the wall and i think I hit the main water line...we are totally flooded!!!"

needless to say, he got that bill. but I think he thought he found a stud...and it was a water line!

Hey, my friend! When Mark died the hardest thing for me was going thru his papers. We always had sort of an unspoken agreement. I didn't open his mail or bank statements and he didn't open mine.

I felt SO sneaky when it came time to go thru his papers!! I went thru his clothes and donated about 15 trash bags FULL. My oldest son got a lot of his sweaters and his leather jacket. He had 4 watches, and all kinds of knives and guns. I donated furniture that I knew I wouldn't use, sets of dishes, cookware, you name it.

Anyway, in one of his drawers, he had EVERY card I had ever given him along with all of the ones from my sons to him. This goes back to when we first started dating. ( I have all the ones from him, too) That was the hardest thing for me. I sat there and laughed and cried for days trying to go thru all the paperwork. He had the receipt from when he bought my engagement ring and wedding band, receipts for EVERY piece of jewelry he ever bought me.

Selling the house and moving was hard, because he designed the house to suit him before we ever met. (It was definitely a man's house - all rock, wood, and glass) But all the paperwork nearly destroyed me.

Hang in there, Villette - you're a strong woman and growing even stronger with every day you face on your own.

hugs girl and that had to be hard to post for you ...I know just what you mean. I put off packing up his things till yesterday ....it was hard. between crying and trying to pack it all up, I felt like I reduced his whole life to trash bags - it was really hard seeing something I remember him wearing in better days.

I'm taking some of his nicer things to work - some of the guys were interested in the shirts and ties - but I don't know how I'll feel if they actually WEAR them - then again - I want them to go to good use.

But it was really really hard. I have about 21 bags ready for the Purple Heart people to pick up and wouldn't you know - they scheduled me the day I move out.

V- I can relate..sorta. When my granny passed (she was more like my mom to me...we were incredibly close...and she is the first person I had ever lost that I was close to)...My aunt, who she was staying with when she passed, sent me all of her things, including the pj's she was wearing when she passed away. I also had a closet full of her clothes from when she came to visit me before she got really sick. I still have them all. I have decided that I am going to have quilts made out of what I can, and will donate the rest. I thought it would be nice to make a few quilts..one for me, one for my mom, one for my sister. I haven't even begun this process and it has been 5 years. I will one day tho. maybe if there are some things that you really don't want to let go of, you can do something like this...

Wow..what a great idea! When my Nana died, I wasnt able to be there to go through her things. It was the day after she died when all of my relatives were there...I felt like they were raiding her closets in a free for all. The only things that I ended up getting from her is her hair brush (I used to brush her hair insisting that I'd grow up to be a "hair cutter"). Even now it still has a few strands of her hair...this brush is priceless to me. I also got her "Christmas Dress". This dress is the ugliest item of clothing that has ever been made. It is hideous. Uglier than ugly. But I love it because it reminds me of her in happy times. I have always thought about just getting rid of it because I obviously will never wear it and it just sits there. Maybe I'll make a couple of quilts out of it. Thanks for the idea!

That is such a good idea. If she loved it, then she will love that you are holding on to it. I just can't bear to get rid of my granny's stuff. It just hurts too bad. I miss her soooooo much!!!!

That's an awesome idea (and I'm sorry about your 'granny' - you too Kanda)) - good for you and I know what you mean about 'the process' - I had no choice with his clothes ...I'd still have them probably if I wasn't moving into such a small place. I did keep a few shirts to sleep in but that's about all I kept. I seem to have enough stuff all by myself and don't have a clue as to where it's going to go. I'm used to having storage and extra rooms Even after downsizing ....when I see all the boxes lined up against the wall I can't believe it's all mine.

Well - I take that back. Maybe not ALL mine - Why do my 2 yorkies have TWO full boxes of hair products and mine fits into a plastic gallon size baggie ?? Can someone tell that ???

I have a sorta funny one.

When we sold our house back in 2001, we had about 6 weeks from when we accepted an offer to when we were gonna move out. Everything worked fine, except per our sales contract, we had to take care of a few things. There had been a leak under two faucets in the past, but we had to show that those weren't leaking anymore. The inspector came by and he inspected all the plumbing and he saw that it was good!

I swear, we couldn't get out of that house fast enough before stuff started breaking!

So one week after the sale, my husband and boys were in the backyard playing ball, and they threw the baseball into our kitchen window. The buyers came to see the house and the kitchen window was all duct taped together. They're like, "um are you gonna fix that?" Of course, it was fixed a couple days later.

Then, the kitchen faucet underneath started leaking again, and I had to get a plumber in to fix it.

About a week later, the door to the broiler on our oven just fell off! It was only screws, so that was easily fixed, but it was almost laughable to watch things just happen like this.

One week before move out, the electrical outlet in the hall bathroom stopped working.

Then the day we moved, and I was vacuuming the house before we left, another bathroom outlet just croaked on me.

I packed up the vacuum and said, forget it, we had to buy them a $200 warranty for the house, that can cover it.

And I hi tailed it outta there before anything else just broke in front of me!

LOL about the bathroom connection, and walking poop all over the house..... bet that was fun cleaning up.
V, I'm so sorry you're having to go though all of this. I really do feel for you. I'm sure L is very proud of you and all that you have done on your own. You're a very strong lady.....
The girls are DIVAS - that's why they have so much hair stuff....LOL

Here's one for you...I found out a couple days after I moved that we moved in right in front of my worst enemy that I've hated and have been hated by for many years. It might not be too funny, but it makes me laugh because what are the odds, right?

I was already in Disney with my aunt when this happend (THANK GOD!!!) but a lot of people from my church came over to help my parents with the move. My mom told me that when they lifted up their bed, there were like 5 pairs of MY underwear laying on the floor. Thank you, TUCKER!
