| Which is better?? My daughter needs a new camera...BADLY.... So, we talked w/ a camera guy today and told us that this Nikon CoolPix was a good camera. So, we went online and I found these two....daughter loves that is slim. I can't find any differences between these two, other than the mega pixels. (one is 7.2 the other 8 mega pixels...and both have a 3 opti zoom). Anyone have this camera? We read reviews on it and they were pretty much all GREAT! S50 S51 THEN, he told us about this camera Kodak EasyShare Z1275, but most reviews said it was a very slow camera....we do NOT want that because that is what her old camera was like.....I like that it is 12 mega pixels and 5 opti zoom! But.......I am scared about the reviews! Anyone have this one? KODAK Which one do you think would be better? I believe Wal-Mart carries these cameras and they were both under $200 (I think) -- daughter is doing the online research! Thanks (in advance) for your help and opinions!

| not to confuse you with more choices but I like canon too i know more mega-pixels isn't necessarily better but forget why. Here's a site that I like to use for electronic reviews: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ |

| Thanks for that link......it was great! I heard that the optical zoom was the most important............. What Canon do you have, is it slow, give me your review (please) I just HATE buying things like this because the last one we bought her was said to be a good camera, but it was just so dang slow......

| I think you should go with a Canon..they're very user friendly and turn out great pictures. There is another digital camera thread with reviews from people on YT and a majority of them had a canon powershot/cybershot. I have an olympus 790sw. It's waterproof and droppable..which is exactly what I need (I have ruined 3 cameras in the past 2 years due to water damage!)

| I like a high zoom too. I used to have an older canon and it was fast and took great pictures- even in pitch black the flash did wonders. And then this last time I got a exslim (sp?) because they had some special deal on it but it was horrible! We took that back like a month ago and have been researching what to get since. I really liked my old canon and reading all the reviews that seems to be one of the best so want to stick with it - just can't decide which model. I really want a small one (sounds like your daughter does too) and like the features on the SD850 and SD870 the most but I like the body of the SD750. Decisions, decisons |

| Nikon makes some of the best digital cameras hands down. For the home prosumer Canon and Nikon just pack more technology and quality per dollar into there products. Nikon also have very nice lenses even on the lower scale. I wouldn't buy a Kodak Digicam. I have seen so many of them tank in the first 6 months. BTW: I used to sell Digital Cameras at CompUSA |

| I think it really depends of what you plan to do with the camera. I just bought a Sony Cybershot - really small slim line to carry in my purse on vacation - I'm always wanting my camera and don't have it with me. One criteria was that it had to use regular AA batteries. My other camera uses lithium rechargeable ones and they always die at the most inoportune times. We also carry an extra one, but once, out of the blue, it wouldn't recharge and we were on vacation and had only one battery. We were on a tour and couldn't go to the camera store to get another. So my new Sony uses AA batteries. We are also looking for a nice camera with a longer optical zoom (10X - 18X) because we want to be able to zoom in to the landscapes on our vacations. It is very difficult to decide, but there are lots of reviews, if you just google "digital camera reviews". Again, one criteria for the camera with more zoom, is the AA batteries - which narrows it down considerably. My friend has a FujiFilm with a 10X zoom and she loves it. We went to Hawaii this past year and her pix of the surfers and other distant things were so much larger than my pix with my little Sony and its 3X zoom. So, I believe it's all in what you are going to do!

| I have the HP Photosmart R742 and I got it at Wal-Mart, they come in 5 different colors and I love it. It has the HP Precision 3x Optical Zoom its a 5.9mm-17.7mm and 7.0 megapixels. Its the best camera I have ever had, oh and it also has the red eye removal, the HP steady photo, and a fun Design gallery with color effects and fun borders. I believe it was under $150. I hope that helps! |

I have a FujiFilm S series (can't remember the number right now) that is a bigger camera that is a 10 opti zoom and is 7 or 8 mega pixel that is GREAT!!! I honestly compare it to my MIL's big Canon. I love that camera...I have taken GREAT GREAT pictures with it!! http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ The person who writes for this site, didn't give it a good review, but every review from people (on that site) who have that camera says it is "spectacular" and it is! And for the price.....whoa! I was afraid of the "Fuji" brand because I didn't know much about it (and people seem to frown at that brand when I mention it), but I knew I could return it if not pleased, but wow...I have been very pleased....and you can get lens attachments too! (my recent ice pictures were taken w/ that camera) BUT...that is my camera....my daughter is wanting a small one...so....the hunt is on!

| That is one of the problems with the site I forgot to mention (most site actually). The person who does the reviews, does reviews for everything and usually don't know much about cameras in this case as you noticed so you really have to look at what other users of the camera say. How can someone who spends 15 minutes with a camera know how good it is? That's why I like how it puts the user's rating for it when you do side-by-side comparisons. Anyways, good luck on the continued search |
