| Aggressive yorkie puppy, HELP! Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I have had my little yorkie Sammy for about a month. He is 16 weeks old and i love him so much already. Only one small problem. He has been biting me constantly since about the third day i had him. I have tried everything from holding his mouth shut and saying NOOOO BITING to ignoring him for 5 minutes after each bite to putting him in time out in his play pen. Nothing works. His new thing now is growling and snapping at me everytime i try to touch him when he's playing on the floor. I am going to take him to a trainer but i have to wait until all his vaccines are done so it won't be for a couple of weeks. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with this kind of behavior or if maybe my doggy is just a little bit on the mean side. Also, he's only like this when he's full of energy (most of the time), when he's tired he's a sweet little guy. Thanks for listening! |

| Welcome to YT. Im also from NYC. My name is Marie and Gucci is my 1yr old Yorkie. Cant wait to see pic of Sammi. Gucci use to bite when she was a puppy but she outgrew it. I used to tell her no bite, ignore her and gave her a chew toy to chew instead. Hope to meet you you and Sammi in one of our NYC meetups. |

| when he bites, tell him a firm no! and use a squirt bottle 1 squirt! This help me with Starsky and also helps with the barking. Now all I gota do is show it to him and he behaves!

| Thanks for the replies. I am trying to be patient but it's very hard when my otherwise sweet puppy wants to attack me. I tried the squirt bottle today and now he's soaking wet from all the times i had to squirt him in the past hour alone! Hopefully this will work eventually. Marie, how often do you guys have yorkie play groups? I think it would be good for him. I will post pictures as soon as i can. Your doggies are very cute! |

| I know exactly what you’re going through. My Ginger is 16 weeks old and has a serious biting problem. In fact, she got me good in the nose last night. She’s been like this since I got her at 8 weeks. She can get really excited and aggressive. At first I would get really upset and try to scold her, or put her in timeout, but that hasn’t helped any, in fact, getting angry at her makes it worse. Everyone says they’ll grow out of it so in the meantime I just try to direct her attention to a toy. And when she gets like that keep her away from your face! Lol. I like to blame her behavior on my boyfriend. He raised pits and forgets sometimes she’s not one. He tends to play with her a little too… aggressively, but she looooves it. I’m always the big party pooper who has to come brake up playtime between them because she’s getting too excited and playing too rough! Lol. So don’t worry, you don’t have an unusually mean puppy; I think they just get overly excited.

| Gracie was notorious for this behavior at about that age. She grew out of it in about a month. I tried not to scold her very much because I knew it was just a phase she was going thru......I walked her as much as possible during this time and gave her LOTS of attention and toys to keep her busy. http://www.dogster.com/?208460 LOVE THOSE YORKIES |

| stinky, i can so relate to that bite in the nose. My little guy has gotten my ears, nose and cheeks really good in the last few weeks. Oh and he loooves to bite my hair! Oh and don't blame it on the boyfriend. Mine tries to train him to be nice but Sammy doesn't care! He is just plain mean when he's hyper and that's that for now. Gotta love his little mean butt anyway. He's too cute. |

| WELCOME TO YT!!!! Coco wasn't mean, but she was a finger and toe chewer. After I spoke to Stacey (YT member SYLVAN) she sent me some great information. They do grow out of it, but only if they know it's wrong. You don't want to ignore the bad behavior because then they might not grow out of it. They might think it's ok. It's good to address the biting and let them know it's NOT ok, but to be tactful about it. It's always better to reward than punish. I used bitter apple spray. I didn't spray it on my hands or feet but after a while everytime she bit I put a drop of it on her tongue. It only took about 3 times (about 3 drops) before just seeing the bottle would make her stop and I would give her a treat. Everyone addresses it differently but I couldn't let her go through with the phase because I have a 3 year old nephew that wouldn't understand that it's a phase. Good luck!

| Hello, this is my first reply to YT my bundle of fun Tuppence is 8 weeks old, and she weighs 2lbs, she is my first yorkie and I am not too sure what to expect. I am having terrible trouble with her at night time, she constantly yaps if I try to settle her in her playpen for the night. I resulted to sleeping on the floor with her last night, and she was constantly attacking my nose. Have you any tips on a peaceful night. |

| Sammy was very bad with the sleeping the first week. He would cry all night. After about a week he stopped and would sleep through the night. BUT, about 2 weeks ago he went back to the constant whining and barking until i finally couldn't take it anymore and just put him in bed with me. He sleeps well now but i don't fearing i am going to roll over and crush him! So far he has not fallen off the bed or been crushed! He still wakes up at 5 am which kills me because i have to wake up at 6 for work. I am tired all the time now. I know this will get better since i have a beagle who kept me from a good night's sleep as a puppy as well. Thank you all for the very useful advice on my bitey puppy. |

| Sounds like a normal yorkie puppy to me! Harley was and still is sometimes the same way. He's only 7months old and still likes to nip once in a while. Since your little darlin is still a baby he is probably teething and is fascinated by chewing of any kind. Its normal natural behavior but it never hurts to try and cut it short! There are different kinds of bitter apple type sprays you could use to make your hands taste icky to him or on anything else he might bite.
