| Bad Eating Habits I got Sadie five days ago, and she has only eaten 5 pebble of hard food. She downed a 1/2 can of soft food the second day, but I know that this cannot be healthy. She needs something to keep those teeth clean. She has an appetite if I feed her soft food, but she just won't eat hard food. Today, I decided to feed her a tiny treat - chicken jerky and she ate that. I have not given her any soft food, as I am determined to get her to eat hard food. The breeder gave me some of her hard food, but she won't touch it. I am wondering if she ever ate it, because she lived with six pups, two other adult Yorkies, two cats and a St. Bernard. I would think it would be difficult to see if she ate hard food with that many animals in the house. Any tips or suggestions? I don't want her to get sick, but I thought if I kept the soft food away from her, that she would get hungry enough and eat it. I am ready to cave in, as surely she must be hungry. She drinks plenty of water. Thanks. Kate |

| At the beginning Gucci wouldn't eat the hard food either. I mixed some soft food with the dry. I also added some parmesan cheese to the kibble. Now she eats it, I still sometimes give her some soft food and I warm her food a bit too. I also heard that you can give her babyfood but make sure that doesn't contain onions. You can also give her rice and boiled chicken. |

| I think someone suggested spaying a little water on the dry food and sprinkle cheese on it.. cottage cheese might be good mixed with the kibble.. Or try soaking the hard food a little with water and put it in the microwave for a few seconds... I think the heat brings out the aroma. also depending on her size and the size of the kibble she may not need much of it.. try this first thing in the morning when she is most likely to be hungry.

| Thanks for the great info. Today is a great day. I did not feed her anything but hard food yesterday. I don't think she ate more than 3 pieces of hard food. This AM I gave her some hard food and she ate the pieces I put in her bowl, then ate out of my hand. So that was about 9 pieces of hard food. Yea, now I can quit worrying. Just how much food do Yorkies eat a day? I read somewhere that it is around 2 tsp. a day - mine weighs 5.60 lbs. Does this sound right? Kate Quote:

| Thank you! I am confused though. My breeder said to not give her any human food except boiled chicken, rice, lettuce and carrots. And, can I just give her plain boiled white rice? Really curious about this. Kate Quote:

| She weighs the same as my 3 yr. old Yorkie. I wonder if it is the same whether it is a pup/dog? My vet said to just read the package label? Huh? Kate Quote:

| I always have about two cups of dry food only in his bowl. It's not warmed or softened or anything. He eats about a cup a day. I free feed him -- he has food out all day and night. He only eats twice a day though. I let him make his own schedule-- since then, potty training has been a dream.
