Excuse the messy look but I was able to catch a few photos of the girls while we were playing in the garden today. Roxy is teething at the moment and depending on the day - her left - her right - both her ears will be up - or maybe both will fall. Ruby's ears are never going to stand! You can see why people have a tough time believing me that these sisters are litter mates!

The girls are 19 weeks today. Roxy weighs in at 3.4 lbs and Ruby is a whooping 7.8 lbs. They were from a litter of three beautiful girls. The third sister fell in between my two. Wish I could see her now! The story for these little girls is that their mother was a beautiful beagle with a nice pedigree who feel for the charms of a young yorkie male from the "wrong side" of the garden fence. The owners of the mother took the litter of pups promptly to a local pound as soon as they were about 6 weeks old. Thanks to a smart employee, a phone call was made to the local humane society, who picked up the pups from "death row". A little more magic and these Southern Belles were transported north .... and two weeks later - adopted into our family!

I work with a Canon 20D. The camera is good but it's the lens I used for these shots that makes the difference. In my little humble opinion it's the best lens Canon makes - a 135mm 1.2. I bought it for my husband for a christmas gift (so that I could take some shots of 2 of our sons wrestling last year indoors without using a flash). Best gift I ever gave anyone Only short coming is that it is a fixed focal point (rather than a zoom) so I need to physically back up at times. BUT this is working out great with the girls because it allows me to keep working that STAY command. True confession: I had flakes of freeze dried ice cream on my head to get them to stay while I backed up to take the shot of them together! Juli

Everyone ALWAYS assumes they are mother/puppy and when we explain that they are littermates - they have trouble understanding that! Next question is usually if one is a boy and one a girl..... that's usually followed by the person assuming that Roxy must be a runt and have something wrong with her. We are always happy to assure everyone that Ruby is just big-boned and both are as healthy as can be! Funnily enough once we get talking most people assume that we have deliberately bred dogs for this as a designer mix. I've been chased down on my way to puppygarten with the girls numerous times by people wanting a puppy from my next litter! I have been thrilled to hold the girls up as ambasadors for promoting rescue as a great alternative to purchasing a puppy from the (still way to numerous) Puppy Barns that we have scattered all over Jersey.

				   | Those puppies have to be a couple of the cutest puppies I've ever seen. They look like they need to be in the movies. Absolutely the cutest!!!
