Default Has your Yorkie won over skeptics?

My family is a big-dog family. I'm the youngest of six, and no one ever owned a dog less than 80 pounds until we bought Eddie. At first, the teasing was relentless. But they'd never met him. This summer, they met him.

Today, Eddie got a package in the mail from my brother Ray. There was no teasing. He and his daughters bought Eddie this shirt. They love him. Ray even said his next dog is going to be a little dog.

It was a proud moment in my life, validation for choosing a little dog.

I'll bet some of you have similar stories. 'fess up!

Oh Eddie! How my evil heart pounds to see your handsome visage in such an apt shirt. Can I be your [evil] Lois Lane? Puppy kisses, ~~Dixie~~

I have a story a little like that. None of my mum's family had ever had doggies. We had the huge responsibility of converting them all to dog people. The power of cute won out in the end and we are officially "the grandkids" for mummy's parents and mum-in-law.

I love that shirt!

When I lived at home my parents refused for me to get another dog...and now they LOVE Rocky. Last weekend we went to their house and my dad picked up a Harley shirt for Rocky.

LOL - oh yes!

I've been blessed to have grown up around dogs of all sizes but over the last 20+ years have always had big dogs (between 95 - 120 lbs big). You tend to forget that great things also come in small packages. Roxy and Ruby have blessed my heart with small dog love completely since joining our home two months ago... and boy have they worked wonders on my husband, who truthfully isn't as crazy about animals as the kids and I.

When he left this morning at 5 am with the kids for a soccer tournament, not only did he take time to kiss me goodbye - but he reached across the bed and tucked the little girls into the covers on his side of the bed and kissed them both on the head! THIS IS HUGE! Previously, he has thrown a little hissy when he finds any dog in the bed - especially on his side!

Little Roxy has also won over my father - this was also not an easy feat! My father has always been a big dog supporter. I don't think he even considered little dogs (anything under say 50 lbs) anything more than a large cat. The moment my dad met Roxy (when she was just 1.6 lbs) he has been swept away. We went for ice cream one night after we first got her and as the sun when down it got a little chilly - it was he who tucked her into his jacket and carried her around all snug as a bug! When he comes over he makes a big deal over all the dogs but there is always special time for, as he calls her, "the little one".

I fell in love with my first yorkie when I was about 2 years old. My great grandfather in Scotland used to breed/show them and my granny's best friend had a little girl from him named Candy. She was darling and used to follow Mrs. McDougall everywhere, including going to work with her. Mrs. McDougall owned the local sweetie shop... hence little Candy's name. There was something so delicate and dainty about this particular dog to me. She reminded me of a fairy. Looking back, I can't believe it took me this long to reawaken to the call of the yorkie!

I suppose in my defense it was because I was afraid to have a small dog while I had young children in the house. A small dog would have been lost in the muddle! My middle son and my twins are only 14 months apart! It was crazy around here for a long time having three car seats, three in diapers, three high chairs etc....

Hmm - seems I need a third yorkie......

My husband and two sons were very "eh" on me getting a yorkie. They frequently scoffed about "those ugly little rat dogs", etc.

Then I brought Kiki home, and the rest is history! My husband is a bigger mush about the doglettes than *I* am....I thought he'd fret himself to death when Mazie went in to get spayed! And my oldest son, NOT an animal lover in general, has just been transformed. I never thought I'd see him cuddling and babytalking an animal, but he's in love!

That is so cute and sweet! My parents arent much of dog people (they think dog's will just pee all over her house) and my mom even gets mad when I bring Chloe over - at least at first. But she always ends up loving on her. No one can resist an adorable yorkie

By the way Eddie's pic on my website has been getting lots of compliments. Several customers that I have talked to on the phone go on and on about how cute he is

My husband was very unsure of a small dog. We already have an eskimo spitz (about 25 lbs) and that was a small dog to him. He is crazy about Sissy too and is the one who insisted she begin sleeping with us!!

My mom still thinks I'm crazy and says I just want to be like Paris Hilton (which drives me nuts cause I can't stand Paris). She likes Sissy when she comes over, but my mom isn't the most agile person, so I don't like her to pick her up. I have one sister who hates dogs in general and she has not warmed up to Sissy either. She actually swats at her if Sissy comes near her, so I'm glad she doesn't come over much!! My other sister and brother really like her and have commented that they should get a little dog.

My kids and my friends all love her and threaten to disappear with her!!

P.S. Love the t-shirt. Eddie looks great as always!

My parents weren't really dog people before I got Max. In fact, my dad said 'no dogs in the house' when I told them that I was getting a yorkie. Since I live 5-6 hours away from them I told them that I wouldn't be visiting much then. My mom convinced my dad that yorkies are small and they don't shed so there shouldn't be a problem. So when they first met Max they both, but especially my dad, became so attached to him. He built Max steps and covered them in carpeting so that he could easily get on and off the bed. When Max visits, they make sure that the plants are removed from the window sill in their living room (it's a big window sill) and that Max's bed and toys are placed in the middle so that Max has his favorite spot to relax and look out the window. And since Max HATES winter weather and snow my dad clears paths for him so that he doesn't have to walk in the snow AND then he carries Max back into the house in his coat so he doesn't get cold. So saying that Max has won over my dad is a bit of an understatement

Great stories, you guys! It's almost funny to see big-dog people melt when they get a sense of little dog personalities.

And Shana, that's cool Eddie has gotten some compliments on your site! I wasn't sure about the pic because he looks like such a shaggy ragamuffin on the same site as your perfectly groomed girls!
