| My New Little Girl Hello all. I'm new to the Yorkie world. This is my baby, Lacey Rose. Just picked her up Saturday. She was born 11-7-12. I am already under her spell. Should I have the hair on her ears trimmed now? The breeder cut some off her right ear to keep it from drooping, but her left ear droops now. Do they really pull the hair out? Doesn't that hurt? |

| Oh my gosh - she is beautiful! The OP was right, they pull the hair out from the inside - when you take her to your vet for her first check up, ask them to check the ears - my vet did Izzy's ears for me because she had a lot of hair in the ears. As far as her ears standing up, yes, you will want to trim the hair from the tips if you want her ears to stand. Our Jack's ears stand and I did tip them but Izzy's flop over. I think they are cute both ways. Congrats on your little bundle. She is gorgeous!

YT 2000 Club Member | She sure is a cutie and yes I pull the hair out from the insides of my dogs ears to keep them clean and free of ear infections. I do this when I am grooming them, they are so use to me doing this that they don't even notice it. If you are going to do this, I would have someone show me how the first few times.

| AWWWWWW she's beautiful!!! Does she like younger men? My Bentley is exactly 20 days her junior. lol The moment the breeder put Bentley in my arms a week ago this past Saturday I was under the Yorkie spell too. Welcome to the club. I'm beginning to think Yorkies are like potato chips.....can't have just one. I'm already contemplating getting her a little sister about a year from now. I finally trimmed Bentley's ears. He went from one ear up one ear down to both down. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth while trimming him tonight, I believe I will start letting a groomer do it. I'm just not taking him to a groomer yet. His vet does not want him at a groomer until he gets his kennel cough vaccine.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! Lacey Rose is so darn cute. I always trim the hair of my 3 girls with a mini clipper. Mine don't seem to have a problem with hair in their ears so I have never pulled it out.

| Lacey is just precious. I would definitely trim the hair from the tips of her ears. Keeping the weight off of them will make it easier for her to keep her ears up. Some people pull the ear hairs out of the inside of the ears after using a special drying powder, and others don't. There are two schools of thought. It definitely helps to keep the wax out, but some vets say it makes it easier for infections to get in the ear. This sounds like a good topic for a new thread. I hope your life is filled with love, happiness, health, and laughter with your beautiful baby girl and that she will give you the wonderful, special life that I have had with my love bug Katie and her special sisters at the Rainbow bridge. They are all the loves in my life, and they taught me so much about love and commitment. Your life is forever changed because of loving your little girl. Good luck with her. We are here to help in any way that we can.

| Welcome to YT and thank you for sharing the pics of your new precious baby!! They don't pull the hair out, Sweetie. They just trim with trimmers - usually the top 1/3 and it will help with that droopy ear probably. Most recommend plucking the ears inside the ear..that may be what you were thinking of. That's a different part of the ear and for purposes of keeping the ear from "holding onto" water - which can lead to ear infections. I don't do the plucking tho. I just always dry Mandie's ears with a blow dryer immediately after I bathe her...before any other part of her body

| Thanks everyone for your sweet comments about my little one! I love her more every day. It is so hard to leave her each morning. I spend more time at work wondering about how she's doing than doing actual work. Lacey may have some separation anxiety, but I think I've got it much worse. Appreciate the info on ear trimming. She is not due for her final round of shots until March 1 so I don't want to take her to a groomer yet. She had an ear infection when I took her home supposedly from a recent bath. She is much better after six days of ear drops. No more scratching or shaking her little head. Last edited by mygirllacey; 02-22-2013 at 04:08 AM. |
