They look similar, but the ad you just found on Craigslist is a female.

Welcome to YT ! You are required by Law in the state of California to try Publicly to find a dogs owner as animals are considered property. You can run an add for a Found dog in the lost/found section of your local newspaper, FYI you can run a Found add for free Because the Law requires it . Also you can call around to some Local shelters & tell them you have the dog, give a description & your Phone #, tell them you will keep the dog till the owner calls & if the owner doesn't call within the required by law time then legally the dog is considered yours. Also when you run the add in the newspaper Only say that you have found a very small dog & please call to identify or every one will be calling trying to get a free yorkie.

Some kind soul found him & reported him to Animal Control & the family was reunited!

Did you have the vet scan him for a microchip or look for a tattoo? You must report a lost dog to Animal Control and let them help try to find his owner. You can claim him as your own if the owner never claims him. Small dogs often escape their yards or run out the door and keep running out of freight once they are out in the big world. If you are a true doglover, you must, in good conscience, work hard to find who his true owner is before you can call him yours. I would hope that should you ever find my little Tibbe, you would try to help us reunite.
Exactly what I was about to say.

His owners may be desperately looking for him. Don't assume because he's been on the streets no one loves and is missing him. Post flyers do everything you can. I know its hard because he's so cute but its the right thing to do.

But I will definitely post up flyers by where we found him to see if anyone lost him!
He was neglected because he was wandering the streets. These are assumptions people make all the time about found dogs because they look hungry and are dirty. But its not because the owners neglected him. That dog looks pretty loved to me. You need to hunt down his owners. You will be blessed in some way down the road for doing so. If you've done everything in your power and still no owners are found then you are justified in keeping him. Just know that someone may be crying their self to sleep every night wondering where their baby is.

Reward for our missing Yorkie
The yorkie I have only weighs 2 lbs and has a hunch on his back and I found him no where near Whittier so this probably isn't him thanks though! I have checked the craigslist ads as well as called Animal Control, so far no news of an owner, I will keep looking though but in the mean time I will take good care of him!

A hunch in a dogs back means nothing more then it's back is probably out & this can happen in a matter of seconds so please don't use that as basis for a description as when it escaped it may not have had a hunch in it's back. And have you checked the lost/found in the news paper yet ? as that's where most people advertise for a lost pet & you need to check it for at least a week.

Many dogs are born with or develop a hunch in their backs with time. It doesn't always mean they have an injury or IVDD or that they are in pain but those things do have to be ruled out to be on the safe side. I am so glad OP is looking for her owner as I know Tibbe would likely look pretty scruffy if he'd been out on his own for very long. He looks scruffy right after a bath and he gives himself a good wallow!!!

Missing yorkie from Santa Ana from 4th of July. No details, but Santa Ana is your next door neighbor. Worth a call.

I agree. PLEASE try and reunite him with his rightful owner. He is not your's to just keep unless you have exhausted all means. Good luck!

Well the vet said that it seemed like it was from arthritis since he said it wasn't a recent injury, same thing with his bum leg, he said it heeled crooked because it was unattended. So far everyone I have called and every flyer and ad I have posted, I've been sure to check and include that he has a bum leg and a hunch. Either he had it since his previous owners or he has been unattended for a long time. Because I mean, who would let their doggy's leg heal crooked by itself while it's in pain? Unless they were bad owners. But I have also included pictures to make sure they know what he looks like in case he didn't have these charteristics before! I am trying my best! Thanks though!
