My first dog ever: Howie<3 4 Attachment(s) Howie came to us randomly last week and seemed to have been wandering the streets for who knows how long. He was so small we thought he was a puppy but we took him to the vet and I guess he is a couple years old. He has a bum leg but other than that, is ok. I believe he came to us for a reason<3:) |
Oh my gosh! He's adorable. Just give lots of love and he'll be alright :) |
Please, please try to find Howie's owner before you say it he came to you for a reason. His owner may be frantic trying to find him or very ill & need this little boy more than anything. I heard of a woman's Yorkie escaping as paramedics were wheeling her husband out to the ambulance and she had to follow him to the hospital as he was critical and she simply could not look for her dog. Some kind soul found him & reported him to Animal Control & the family was reunited! Did you have the vet scan him for a microchip or look for a tattoo? You must report a lost dog to Animal Control and let them help try to find his owner. You can claim him as your own if the owner never claims him. Small dogs often escape their yards or run out the door and keep running out of freight once they are out in the big world. If you are a true doglover, you must, in good conscience, work hard to find who his true owner is before you can call him yours. I would hope that should you ever find my little Tibbe, you would try to help us reunite. |

He is absolutely adorable. :) Welcome to YT! |
Hi and welcome to YT. Thank you for giving this baby a safe place in your home. I hope that all works out for everyone. Howie is absolutely adorable and I hope that you can figure out his circumstances as soon as possible. |
A dog can be very well loved and have horrible teeth. My mothers Bichon lost most of his teeth by 8 years of age. He could not be anesthetized for dentals to be done- She almost lost him when he was neuterd at 6 months. Dogs quickly become unrecognizable when they get lost/separate from their family. I would have sure to notify vet offices and shelters in your area to be on the safe side. The little guy is adorable :):) |
Thank you for helping and trying to reunite him with his family. My first Yorkie had a tooth abscessed through his cheek, plus several other bad teeth that he subsequently lost during his first dental care, once I found out about it. I knew nothing about a Yorkie being predisposed to dental disease & didn't know back then to brush his teeth daily and he wore no collar or ID tag (or microchip as they weren't available then) at home since I feared he would get hung up on something and choke himself. No dog was ever more loved, adored or coddled than my Scotty and if he had gotten out with those bad teeth, before I knew about the issue, been lost and on his own for a few days, he would probably look pretty uncared for as well. I am so glad you are going to look for his owners as try to imagine how badly that person may be feeling right now with their baby out there missing. You love him after only a week - imagine if he got lost from you some day after you have had a few years of loving him. It would devastate you. I would do all that I can to find the owner and should you not be able to, you will know that you did all you could to reunite this little cutie with his mommie. And don't just put up flyers - call Animal Control to report him as a lost dog. That is the first thing most owners do is call their local AC to see if they picked up their dog. Putting up flyers is good but what if the owner doesn't drive by that way? You can't paper everywhere with them. AC will allow you to keep the dog if the owner doesn't claim it after the designated period of time. Call some local vets offices also to report that you have found a lost Yorkie. One of them may know someone is looking for a lost Yorkie and called them. If you get to keep him, I hope that you have him microchipped. That way if he runs out the door when you aren't looking or gets out somehow, Animal Control can find you and re-unite you with him. :) |

Awwww! Howie is adorable. Good luck with him whether it's finding his old owner or becoming his new one. Looks like he is happy to have been rescued. |
Aww, I'm so happy you took him in. I hope you can find his family, if not maybe he could have found his new forever home with you:) |
What a cutie! Hopefully this all works out for all involved. |
There is a missing Yorkie in Whittier that does look like him, though the pictures aren't that great. Actually, there are a few different people who have lost their Yorkies. Did you check there and post for a "found Yorkie"? What do you guys think? Could this be him? Reward for our missing Yorkie |
I agree with the others I know you probably already love him but from his appearance he looks like he has been to a groomer recently. I would think some poor family is missing him terribly. My sons boxer was taken last Dec and we have never given up hope of finding her. We post every week on craigslist and keep the flyers new at the vets and other places. We know the people who took her might not return her but hoping someone will see her and notify us. It is so heartbreaking when your pet is missing. Please please try really hard to find his owners. |
