| The breeder said that we could return the dog to her and she would give us the money we paid for the dog. We would have to drive 90 miles to her house to give her Nibbler in order to get our money back. This payment would not include any of the fees we've incurred trying to determine the breed. We paid $90 to have a Wisdom Panel done plus already gave Nibbler her 12 week vaccinations. I don't want to return the dog. What should I do? If I open a small claims case, will they ask that I return the dog in order to get my money and fees for the DNA test back? A mixed breed dog isn't worth what I paid. I paid $400 for her. Mixed breed dogs are frequently available for free or under $100.00. Last edited by anastacea; 02-16-2011 at 08:58 AM. |

Your pup's personality that you described is priceless, very special. She may not have the look you wanted, but she is adorable. Enjoy her and if you still want a Yorkie, start a little savings for one. A good Yorkie pup is going to cost at least $1,500 in your region. Good breeders will have 1 - 2 year olds for less, but you really have to do your research.

| I wouldn't give your dog back to the *itch but I would make it my mission to advertise what kind of place she has - take pictures of your pup and the registration paper and post them around town, online, free newspapers, etc. Make sure you only tell the truth so she can't turn around and sue you, but be loud and proud and as mouthy as you can - after all you have $400 worth of advertising coming to you, don't you??? |

| I agree with the last two posters, Nibs would not have a very good life back at the breeders. Either to be sold again or put down. Sorry to say it like that but dogs are just property or a source of income to some "breeders". Love her and give her a great loving home. If you are still looking for a yorkie please see my earlier post about rescue groups or go to the the rescue forum and ask some of the YT Rescue Moms for info.

| I wouldnt give your dog back.. you sound like you already made a bond with the puppy. I would def post about the breeder. Take this as a lesson earned, at least u have a healthy baby. Down the road u can get a yorkie, when that time comes do your research.. in the mean time just enjoy what you have. You shouldnt dwel on it. |

| Wow, that sucks. I feel your pain. I paid $1750 for my yorkie and yes he is an AKC purebred yorkie. We didn't get to see him at 12 weeks, but the breeder told me he weighed "about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds," which was perfect because we didn't want a tiny. We got him on a Saturday and took him to the vet on Monday and he really weighed 3lbs, 13oz. He now weighs around 10 pounds at 4 years old. We didn't plan to stock up on yorkies to get the "perfect" one so it was disappointing that he is so much bigger than breed standard. He is sweet, smart and beautiful and we loved him after only 2 days, which is why we kept him, though the breeder offered to take him back. It still pi**es me off that she got us for so much money, though. She was in a different state so trying to do anything legally was near impossible and at the end of the day we just accepted that we made mistakes in picking the breeder, but ended up with an amazing family pet that we love to pieces. I am sure your story will have the same happy ending even if you are mad as he** right now. She is super cute, so just love her and chalk it up to lessons learned. And take your time, researching how to find a reputable breeder, if you decide to bring a (another) yorkie into your family. Good luck.

| I know this thread is a few months old but I would love to know if you kept your pup and the outcome with the breeder? Hope you did decide to keep Nibblers , such a cutie pie. |
