| Thank you everyone who replied. The results are in today. She is not even a Yorkshire Terrier. She is half Silky Terrier and the other half is a Shih Tzu mix. The DNA was taken by a Wisdom Panel blood sample. So, needless to say, we are very upset and are going to be contacting the breeder this evening and going to her house for a full refund. I will keep you updated on the results of our efforts. I believe what she did is illegal and we can fight it. Now we feel unsatisfied because we didn't really get what we wanted. So, we are thinking about buying a second dog that is 100% Yorkshire Terrier. We wouldn't have thought to get a second dog, we really just want one Yorkie. But, since Nibbler has become part of the family, we can't part with her. Can anyone advise me as to where to find a legit Yorkie? I found my breeder on puppyfind.com. Is AKC registration 100% legitimate? How does AKC verify that puppies are purebred? Thank you, Anastasia |

| I didn't think she was a yorkie but she definately is adorable!!! I would suggest you go to this website: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America I would call around and talk to different breeders on there. Tell them you want a pet and not a show dog and they can help you get a legit yorkie!! Good luck!

| Did you get AKC papers on the pup from the breeder? If so, I would definitely report her to the AKC, along with your lab results. She would be in a whole heap of trouble, and probably have to DNA all of her breeding stock and pups to prove parentage, and be stripped of the ability to register any future litters with the AKC.

| Sorry to hear she isn't a Yorkie, but she is very cute. I am sure you will get a lot of LOVE from her and that is all that matters. Hopefully you can expose the breeder for lying to you.

You need to report the breeder to the CKC. They will investigate her and could suspend all her registrations. The complaint has to be in writing on their forms. They will send you the correct ones to get the investigation started. Contact Info, Phone Number, Address - Continental Kennel Club As for the AKC, it is a legitimate registry. But, like any organization, there will always be bad seeds who try to pull one over on buyers. If there is any question about the lineage of a dog, the AKC can request DNA tests. Your best bet for finding a pure bred yorkie is to start with the YTCA. There is a contact page for breeders. If they don't have pups available, they can help you locate a REPUTABLE breeder in your area. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Good luck getting your money back from the breeder. Technically, since she's healthy, she won't fall under the Puppy Lemon Laws in the state. But you probably have a good case for small claims court in your area. http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/smallclaims/

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...ertificate.jpg I've been told that CKC isn't legitimate. So, I was wondering if the AKC can be trusted? Thanks | |

| I am sorry this happened to you. It's a shame that we have people in the world that scam and deceive innocent people for money... I would suggest doing a lot of research on breeders this time. Or you can try adopting one from a local rescue (: a lot of those dogs need good homes! Best of luck

| I was going to say that she's a mix but I guess you already know that now. I would be upset if I paid alot of money too. Yorkies are expensive and you didn't get what you paid for. |

| Your little Nibbler sure is cute. Keep her even if the breeder does not own up. Try asking the rescue groups if they have AKC Yorkies with the registry paperwork. Usually they do not but there are exceptions. The 10 yr old yorkie I fostered last summer had his AKC certificate and complete health/medical history from the vet. Mr Chips would have gone to the shelter but we found him a great home. Both you and the pooch win. The pooch gets a nice home and you are not paying breeder prices.

| You may have trouble getting both your money back and getting to keep the dog. If you received something for your money even if fraud was involved I do not think you can get something for free. When you go to court, the court's job is for the people to be placed back at the begining of the contract. Make sense? I think you are to be made whole, not gain from the lawsuit. Unfortunetly courts see dogs as property. Good Luck.

Keep in mind the amount of work and the cost of having 2: vet bills, food, and more. As others stated, AKC is not a guarantee of a good pup or a good breeder. Do plenty of research and be patient.

| I'm so sorry for what you're going through, there are some VERY dishonest people out there ("GREEDERS") that see dogs as nothing but a profit. Your little Nibbler is too cute for words and I'm glad you're keeping him! Hopefully this woman can be put out of business and you are able to get your money back. Keep us posted and welcome to YT!!
