| Buddy Hello. Was browsing around the net looking for info on Yorkies and found your forum. My wife and I are proud new owners of a Yorkie. We don't know all the details on him as he is a rescue dog. It's funny how fate has a way of stepping in and changing your life. I've wanted a Yorkie ever since I saw one years ago. He was so much fun and very attentive even though he didn't know me from Adam. My wife wanted to get me one for my birthday this year, but she was hoping to adopt one a few years old. That's how we've done all our dogs in the past. So she went to the local dog shelter and they put our name on a list. Exactly 2 days later we get a call. An adoption agency took in a Yorkie from a 20 year old girl who wanted to be Paris Hilton. Thing is, she didn't know she had to feed and raise him too. ;-) We got him last Saturday and it's been a nice adjustment for him and us. He sleeps with us, works with us, plays with us and rides with us. We decided to name him Buddy since I kept saying: "Come here Buddy". It stuck. He seems to be potty trained, but not much more than that. We take him next week for all his basic shots, checkup and neutering. He's such a welcomed part of our emtynesting family. One thing we have to work on is his barking. For no reason he'll walk in the room and bark. We have determined from reading on line his high pitched bark means he wants attention. Is this right? Any suggestions to break him of it or temper it anyway? Other than that, we love this little boy. I'll know more about his age, weight etc next week once we return from the vet. He's such a treat! Now I look forward to reading some of your posts and pictures! Thanks, Ron |

| Hi Ron & wife....welcome! My DH & I too, are emptynesters, lol. Our Zhoie was 2 yrs on Jan 25th and oh what a difference she has made in our lives. She is our heart & joy. I had read several books while awaiting time to bring Zhoie home, as she is our first yorkie and found most to say that people create barkers by encouraging them. Such as, having them speak for food or if they bark to get your attention, you respond, etc. My office is in my home and I'm on the phone most of the day, so we have never responded to a bark, ask her to speak etc. For us, it worked she isn't a barker. Heck, a delivery person comes to the door and she just runs ahead of me, twirls in circles to be picked up. LOL Try, when he barks, blatently turn your back, when he is quiet, say good quiet and continue. Keep in mind....don't ask them to speak for anything. Hope this my help. Good luck.

| awww CONGRATS!!! Buddies adorable!!! That's so kewl you went to a shelter and found him!!! I use a little squirt bottle with water on my Tulip as she's a serious barker...she finds reasons to bark...and is always HEARING things...and away she goes bark, bark, barking..UGH... Anyhoo the squirt bottle works really well.....it makes her forget all about that phantom noise...and run for cover.. Some people put change in a can..and shake it every time their little one barks...I've heard it works too.. There's a couple ideas..you'll prob get more! Good luck and again Congratulations!!

| Welcome to YT, Ron. It sounds like you and Buddy have already bonded. They are amazing little creatures. Sometimes too smart for their own good, but extremely affectionate. |

| You've got a GREAT yorkie!! My Daisy "talks" to me a lot. I've probably encouraged it because I always try to figure out what she wants. But she doesn't talk to me unless she really has something to say!!! (haha) It doesn't bother me, I actually like it. So....I don't know what to say to help you. I will tell you this though.............you've got yourself a really "fine" little yorkie. No kidding. |

| Thanks everyone. We feel very lucky to have him. It's been a week now and he's certainly one of the family. Can't wait to visit this vet for his checkup and see if they can give us an idea on his age. I think he's pretty young maybe a year, but we shall see on Monday. |
