Hi Ron & wife....welcome! My DH & I too, are emptynesters, lol. Our Zhoie was 2 yrs on Jan 25th and oh what a difference she has made in our lives. She is our heart & joy.

I had read several books while awaiting time to bring Zhoie home, as she is our first yorkie and found most to say that people create barkers by encouraging them. Such as, having them speak for food or if they bark to get your attention, you respond, etc.

My office is in my home and I'm on the phone most of the day, so we have never responded to a bark, ask her to speak etc. For us, it worked she isn't a barker. Heck, a delivery person comes to the door and she just runs ahead of me, twirls in circles to be picked up. LOL

Try, when he barks, blatently turn your back, when he is quiet, say good quiet and continue. Keep in mind....don't ask them to speak for anything.

Hope this my help. Good luck.
