| Surprise Visitors My family owns a Chalet up in the Smokey Mountains and Cookie loves to stand on our porch and bark at the squirrels and birds who live nearby. Yesterday Cookie was barking like crazy, I thought she was having a fit so my daughters and I just ignored her assuming it was just another squirrel. Finally I decided to see what was going on and what do you know we had two black bears, a boy and a girl, playing under our porch!! They stayed for a long time, roaming around in our yard and playing with our deck chairs. I had to lock Cookie in the house, I was afraid she might jump off the porch. I'm sure the bears would have made a snack out of her, she's too little for a full meal.

They stayed so long this time that I had to wait a while before taking Cookie outside, but we are always careful.

| Up on the porch it's actually more amusing than scary, they can't reach you and it's fun watching them roll around in the grass. My family has had several encounters with these bears, in fact my son was staying at the chalet alone one night and was grilling a hamburger. Well he turned around and saw a bear not three feet behind him! But my son was smart and knew that the bear really wanted the meat so he flipped the burger in the bushes behind him. While the bear went after the burger my son ran into the house!

| Well, if you have bears, you must have owls too !! We had an owl that would hide in the tree in our neighbor's yard and wait for my babies to come and pee....We fooled him though, we put up the xpen so they couldn't run around the yard and we would go out with them and also flash the flashlight in it's eyes for the longest time, finally after 3 nights of this, he never came back.....

| Nope, this is our home and recently we've been seeing bears every night! As I said we keep a good watch and we are always on the porch when they come around so we just sit up high and watch them play around in the grass.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Wow!!!!!!! If it's any reassurance, I don't believe black bears eat meat. Not that I would recommend sending your yorkie out to take care of business! That is just so crazy. I was realizing I've only seen ONE squirrel in SF! Life looks a little different in your area.
