Sad sad sad................. Something horrible happened to my dear baby yesterday. My little baby "Nellie" was only 2 years old. Nellie was killed in a terrible act of violence. My neighbor's dog (1/2 chow 1/2 Border Collie, name Cody) was running loose again. This dog has shown aggressive tendencies against my little Nellie in the past. Yesterday Nellie went to the door signaling that he wanted to go outside for a bathroom break. My 6 year old nephew opened the door and let Nellie out (we always use a leash but my nephew forgot) I was in another room and was unaware of this. My nephew comes running into the laundry room screaming "Nellie is in trouble"! I followed him to the door and that's when I saw that Cody had Nellie pinned to the ground. I grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran over to the dogs I sprayed Cody in the face until he let my baby go. Poor little Nellie was covered in blood and saliva and was lifeless. He died in my arms on the way to the clinic. I am so sad. Please advise me what to do, I'm sorry but I can't type anymore right now.

so sorry I am sooooo sorry to hear about your companion. Many little Yorkies lose their lifes when attacked by a bigger dog. I know people think I am paranoid, but I do not trust any strange dogs around my Yorkies...again I am very sorry about your loss.

So sorry So sorry about your loss . . . was your neighbors dog on YOUR property when it happened? Had you warned or said anything to your neighbor about his/her dogs tendencies beforehand? Do you know if anyone else has said anything to this neighbor or if there were prior incidences in which this dog has shown aggression to which the dogs owner was aware of? Sadely, under the law as it stands now, dogs don't have rights unto themselves. They are considered "chattel," in other words, property. This means that you may be able to get compensation for your economic loses, the purchase prise of your dog and vet bills, perhaps, but that's about it. Like I posted for the "My Yorkie is too big post," I'm limited in what advice I can give you but the best advice I can offer is to speak to a local attorney, familiar with tort law in your jurisdiction (a local civil trial attorney) and discuss your case with him or her. You may also want to approach the owner of the dog to see if he/she will be reasonable and at least cover your economic losses. Again, my heart goes out to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Some people cope by looking at past video or pictures of their lost pet, but sometimes that can be hard as well.

So so so sorry I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I'll say a little prayer for you. May God bring you peace through this sad time in your life. May God also bring you some peace over the situation. Wish I lived closer to you because our mama yorkie is going to have pups next month and I'd give you one. :-) Hope your weekend goes ok. Again, sorry for you loss.

I want to thank everyone so much for the kind words you all have expressed in this time of sorrow and tragedy. I have confronted the other dog's owner and she says that she hates it but $%@! happens! I am angry and furious. Its not the financial loss but rather the loss of a companion, a friend, a family member. I am now faced with the difficult deciion of what to do with the body, cremation or burial. Does anyone have anyone suggestions? What makes this extremely difficult is that I have my gastric bypass surgery scheduled for next week and now my little Nellie will not be here with me while I am recooperating.

I feel so bad for you. It's really painful, I know...I saw my other Yorkie die in front of my eyes as he was hit by a car. I'm sure you gave Little Nellie the best life any Yorkie could wish for. She had a wonderful life, and you should focus on all the good things you did for her and the joy she brought you. And your love shouldn't end there. One thing that helped me cope with the loss of my Yorkie was I joined the Yorkie Rescue Group and focused my attention on saving older not-so-fortunate Yorkies. It made me happy knowing I was helping save my pet's breed, even though he was gone. | |

Light at the end of the tunnel.................. As hard as this time in my life might be it is good to know that kind people like R4sons exist! I would love to have one of your puppies! It's like my little angel has been reincarnated as a new puppy and as if r4sons is my guardian angel. I do have a reason to live. I think I will have Nellie cremated so no matter where I may travel I can always take my little angel with me. r4sons you are the greatest! This is a blessing in disguise since my finances are lacking from my illness and missed work. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
