| General Patton's Vet Visit YT Friends, I just returned from General Patton's first appointment to his new vet since I've had him. General Patton now weighs 4.6 lbs. I should have named him Porkie. He is healthy as a horse. All tests came back negative, which is GREAT!. The only disappointing thing is that when I asked what the vet would guestimate his weight would be when fully grown, he said about 12 lbs, though of course that would depend on Patton's growth spurt. He said to triple his weight at 12 weeks(Patton was born 4-10-05) and to double it at four months. Well, Patton has always been bigger than his two sisters, but when I got him, the breeder said Patton would probably weigh on the conservative side about 6 lbs. Patton's mother weighs 5.5 and his dad 4.5 , so I thought 6 would be fine. I told the breeder what the vet had said and she didn't think he'd weigh what the vet guestimated, said if that happens that would be a first in his line. One of his two sisters is Sophie(YT member Anadoodle) and the vet kept the other sister(who now weighs 3.5 she said). The breeder now is thinking Patton may weigh 7-8 lb range. So, I am hoping her estimate is correct and not what the vet said. I will hope.... HERE'S MY QUESTION: Given that Patton is healthy, all systems are working well, DO YOU THINK I SHOULD CONSIDER CONTINUING TO GIVE HIM NUTRICAL which I assume is loaded with calories? I have been giving him Nutrical once daily since I brought him home two weeks ago. General Patton did v. well for his vet exam. He cried a little after the shot had already been given(I guess the medicine was cold inside his body) and he cried a little when he cut his rear nails. Then, I had the groomer(who has a business there too) cut the hair on his ears to see if his ears will stay erect. She even put a yellow bone. He looked cute in yellow. So, overall, great news for Patton. My only concern for now is determining his size, and hoping that his ears will stay up. Of course, that won't make me love him less, its just my preference. Let me know what you think.....I want some YT opinions.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Congrats on Gen Pattons good visit !! and it sounds like 'Porky' should be ok without the nutrical UNLESS you see him acting lethargic or anything - it really doesn't need to be given every day unless it's a tiny puppy or prone to hypoglycemia - I would go a few days without and watch him - it IS loaded with calories ....On his ears - lots of yorkies ears go up and down then eventually stay up - He sounds great ! |

| Thanks Vilette! I think I will cut the Nutrical to three times pers week and later cut to twice weekly.

| Glad to hear his visit went well. I quit giving the nutrical after my pups were about 14 weeks old. They didn't seem to need it so I discontinued giving it.

| Could you PM me and tell me what Vet you are using? I'm interested in the groomer particularly. Romeo will have his first grooming visit Friday. It was supposed to be last Friday but I've had the worst time. She overbooked and canceled and now I can't get her to call me back. So I've chosen another one that I think I will be happy with..... If it helps, my boy just turned 6 months and he's exactly 3.5 pounds. He's never been given nutrical. He gets Aunt Jemima syrup in his food every morning for breakfast...then kibble the rest of the day and chicken for dinner. My breeder said he never showed hypogyclemia signs but gave them the sugar boost in the mornings just in case. I've stuck with it cause he likes it. Mine was estimated to be 5 lbs...maybe he'll have a growth spurt but I'm beginning to wonder. He's only gained 3 ounces in 2 months! He's healthy the vet says. Who cares how much they weigh...big or little, they are all cute and loveable as hell!!!!

| Patton is no way going to be that big...if he is 4 months old he might hit 7-8 but I cant see unless the breeder wasnt honest with the adult size. He might be a fast grower and start tapering down the weight as you regulate his eating habits. triple the weight at 8 weeks, dble the weight at 12 weeks...also I would stop the nutrical if he doesnt need it, by his weight doesnt seem like he should...use it only if you feel he is stressed.

| YOU WILL LOVE PATTON NO MATTER WHAT! ON DUKES FIRST VISIT HE WEIGHTED 5 POUNDS AT 11 WEEKS AND MY VET SAID THAT HE MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIG EVEN THOUGH HIS MOM WEIGHTED 5 POUNDS AND DAD 7. NOW DUKE STILL WEIGHTS ABOUT 5 POUNDS AT 14 WEEKS. IT SEEMS THAT HE HAS SLOWED DOWN GROWING A LITTLE NOW SO MAYBE PATTON WILL SLOW DOWN SOME TOO LATER. I THINK DUKE IS SO ENERGETIC THAT HE IS NOT GAINING TOO MUCH NOW. I WILL LOVE HIM EVEN IF HE WEIGHTS 15 POUNDS! LOL

| Thanks guys(gals) for the support! The reason I wanted him to stay on the small side(6 or 7 lbs for him) is that over 20 years ago, I had another Yorkie and she ended being about 8 lbs when I thought she was going to be 6. So, ever since, I wanted a tiny one. When I saw Patton, I knew I loved him even though I knew he was bigger than his sisters, but I didn't think he would get to over 7. So, I'll hope that he stays on 7-8 range, even though its large by some of the other YT friends. I'll keep you posted. Thanxx again.

| Ha-ha! General Patton was born April 10th and weighs 4.6? Kacee was born April 9th and weighs 4.5! I wanted a bigger one, though. Muffin weighed 12 pounds at her top and a pound or two less at different times. I thought she was the perfect size, because she just fit in my arms and she fit perfectly in my lap. Besides, she was so cuddly! |
