Allan, I am proud of you. You got things on track. I still have too much sorrow to over come, but someday I will follow in your footsteps. Good luck with the lab. They are great workdogs and are never mean. dave54 |
Allen, Good luck with the Lab puppy! Zack would be glad that your able to share the love he knew. Gizmo has helped me with the loss of Duke. But I know I'll always love Duke first. But I'm glad God sent me another yorkie to love. Let me know if you need to talk. |
Allen, I'm so happy to hear your news on the little Lab girl! I know Zack had his little paws in on leading you to her. I do hope you will post pictures of this new baby and share her with us! You will forever be a part of Yorkie Talk so you better not disappear on us! Your new baby will be a the Labrador Embassador to Yorkies at Yorkie Talk! Congratulations I'm very happy for you. Zack will forever be a part of your life and will live in your heart and memory until you are reunited again in Heaven. Corinne |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks everyone. I certainly will not abandon YorkieTalk and I will post pictures of the new puppy as soon as she comes home! Right now, we are likely going to pick her up on August 2 (so we still have some time). I will add that I do have conflicting feelings right now. On the one hand, I am so excited about getting a new dog. I have been so upset since Zack died and the house has been so quiet, but like I said earlier, I do feel a bit like a traitor to Zack. Also, Zack was the least amount of work imaginable. He was paper trained; he virtually never barked; he did not shed; he had a great demeaner; he was always happy; etc... And the lab will have to be walked mulitple times a day; will shed a lot; will likely bark; etc... But, it is time for a new puppy, and like I said, we could not get another Yorkie. Zack will always be my first dog. He showed me how great Yorkies are (and dogs in general). I never knew that I could be so attached to a 4.5 pound bundle of energy or that I could be so devasted by his loss. I know that Zackie would understand about our getting a new puppy and I talk to him all the time about his new sister and the like. -Allan |

You are not a traitor to Zack, nor could you ever be. Zack would be devastated to know how sad and lonely you have been. None of our babies ever would want that! Which is why I think he paused at the Bridge long enough to hook you up with the new baby... he was just waiting for your cue. |
i am just seeing this ... i am so sorry for your lost i hope you are doing better |
Allan~ I know that you'll find that once you get your new baby home, you'll think it was the BEST thing you ever did! I felt the same way when I first got Max after my bird died. My birds were my babies. I'd had them forever...well 20 years for the first one. And I wasn't sure that I was ready for any new pet, but it's so amazing the positive energy that a new puppy brings to you. And I realized that my birds always knew how much I loved them, and that getting a new pet wasn't disrecting them at all; it was a totally different love for Max than I had for them. The love I shared with them was THEIRS....and all theirs and nothing can ever change that. I love Max more than anything too, and I seriously don't know what I'd do if I didnt' have him, especially in the several months after losing my birds. You can't imagine loving something so much again, but it just happens, and I know it will happen to you too! I will never get over losing my birds, and I'll always think about them and love them, but there's a lot to love and a lot of love to be had, so how can anyone lose? Good luck with your new baby; a lab is such a sweet and loving and joyful dog! |
Hello again Allan, I'm so glad to hear you are doing better now, we lost our yorkies around the same time so i have followed your story and understand everything you say you feel. I too am getting a new puppy... (another yorkie) i haven't actually picked one out yet as i am waiting for litters to be born..but i hope it will be soon..i feel ready now..but like you, i feel guilty for even thinking of getting another. I know i have to move on and look to the future.but its still hard sometimes, i also worry that i won't feel the same about another dog...silly i know...it's just that i knew Heidi so well...after all..she was my constant companion for 14 yrs. Keep in touch please and let me know how you get on and i look forward to seeing pictures of your new puppy soon! Kerry xx |
I have posted pictures of my Heidi now on my RIP thread. :) x |
Allen, Just thinking of you today. Know that you have helped me through the loss of Duke also. Dawn |
Allen, You are in our thoughts and prayers. Congratulations on your new puppy. I can't wait to see the pictures!! |
After I lost my Brutus in February, I was also devastated. He was also loved by everyone around him - easy, no trouble. I only waited 32 days before I got another puppy, Maxwell. Even though he's another yorkie, he might as well be a lab, because he is the opposite of Brutus. He is a retriever, which my husband loves about him. (Brutus was more like a cuddly cat). This one is athletic, energetic and we love him. He didn't replace Brutus, just helped fill the whole in our lives that was left. I wish you happiness with your new puppy, too. I thought about you alot after I first read your post - glad I checked back to read the good news. |
Congratulations on the new pup! I'm so sorry about Zack. |
1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone.... Attached is a picture of our new puppy. Actually, it is a picture of our new puppy together with two of her sisters. (We are not sure yet which is ours. All three are female, but we are getting one of the two yellows.) They are all still at the breeder (for another 2.5 weeks). The breeder has been raising the puppies in her house, but took them outside to her fenced in puppy area for them to play a little bit! Once we bring her home, I will be taking tons of pictures. I still regret not having taken enough of my little Zackie. Allan |
Awwww how cute!! That little face in the back looks so adorable!! Do you have a name picked out for your little girl?? Dawn |
I hope you have lots of room, look at the size of their paws!!! But adorable, yes, you bet they are...now about that name??? |
[QUOTE=coffeechloe;1225835]Hi Allan Initially, I felt like you, I thought I was disrespecting Chloe and I was a traitor but then I turned it around, I told Chloe (I talk to her picture sometimes) that I had brought Oscar into the house as a tribute to her and to the other dogs I have lost. I also "talked" to Oscar about this brothers and sisters who would have loved to have met him. It sounds silly I know but it has helped me. I believe we all have those feelings, but we honor our pups when we share love with another animal. Bless you and thank you for sharing your deepest feelings. Warmly, Deborah |

OMG! I can just smell all that puppy breath!!! They are too cute. I'm so glad you decided to get another pup. No dog will ever replace my precious Chester, but I love all my current babies to death and wouldn't trade them for anything. We look forward to lots of pics! Jacki |
I am now just reading this, and I cried reading these posts. The loss of your furbaby is felt like the loss of a human. I am so happy that you are getting another dog and may help you heal your heart. I wish you well in the future and always know that Zackie is right with you insie your heart. |
The new puppy is precious! No heart is too small that it can't love another dog. |
As for the name... We have not been telling anyone yet what we are going to name her, but it only seems fitting that I tell everyone on YT since I have shared so much here (and received so much support in return). Anyway, we are planning on calling her.... Yoyo. There is a history to the name though. First, we were considering getting a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. We thought the name Yodel made sense. We then decided her nickname would be Yoyo. Finally, we changed our mind to a lab, but the name stuck. (Granted, we only met the puppy once, so we might change our minds based on her personality, but most likely Yoyo it is!) Allan |
Congrats on the new puppy - I'm sure she will help with the loss of Zackie - Enjoy her !!! |
What sweet babies faces they have. I know that getting Gizmo helped me get though the long days. I still cry alot, but now I have someone to hold while I cry. Good luck Allen. Dawn |
I'm kind of liking the name Yoyo...very unique!!! |
Thanks Allan for the kind words in the other thread. I do read the threads every day. You are setting the bar for me. (a little high right now, but soon it wont be so high) A guy I know has a highly trained yellow lab. He named the girl lab after a miner's best friend... Brandy (thats what he told me). I've watched him training his lab for hand signals, whistle signals, and voice commands. The lab can find a raw egg and bring it back without breaking it. I believe the dog is smarter than a 5th grader. lol GL with the pup. |
I love the name Yoyo...that's really cute and different! And I have to say also, that your choice of "Yodel" for a Swiss Mountain Dog was really great too...love them both! Good luck with the new addition to your family; you're such a caring owner, I know you won't need it though! |
You ought to read Marley & Me. I heard it on tape, and his voice was a bit nasally, but the stories about his new LAB puppy made you laugh and cry. Love the photo! |

1 Attachment(s) Hi all, A few things - first, I plan on getting Marley & Me. We were watching the dog whisperer a few weeks back, and Cesar was visiting the author of the book. (His new lab was not behaving well....) Second, despite the imminent arrival of our new puppy (Yoyo), I still get really sad when I think about Zackie. I cried realy hard this past Sunday for the first time in a while. Although the pain lessens, it never truly disappears. Third, here is another, newer pic of our new puppy. (She is the one on the left.) We are picking her up a week from Friday! -Allan |
