Vet said she's suffering...so I had to sign papers to put her down. Before they did, I had one last look at her. She was on her side, slowly breathing but her eyes were open. She looked at me and her eyes had tears in them. I could barely hold my composure. Kissed her one last good by and left the room. My wife and I are just torn. We have small kids (two), but the house is still so empty without Smalls. This forum has helped a lot, reading stories and seeing a large Yorkie community. Thanks in advance for your support.

I am so sorry for your loss of Smalls. I am crying right now...my parents had to put their yorkie Cody down over Christmas. He had breathing problems too (conjestive heart failure) and the look in his eyes was the same..none of us could hold our composure. This poem helped them...I hope it helps you too...

To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all.
For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you.

I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.
Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures.
I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging.

You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you are so rare and unique.
Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are.

I'm sorry for your loss. I also lost my yorkie puppy in a tragic accident last month. It's very hard when it's a sudden, unexpected death. In time the good memories will stay longer and you will be able to look back and smile at how Smalls enriched your life. I only had my little Tate for less than a year, but I am grateful for every minute that I got to spend with him. Take care.

I sometimes mourn the loss of a pets more then a human...so very sorry to hear of your lost companion.

Trachea problems can lead to enlarged heart and congestive heart failure.
I had a 14 yr old die as I was sitting at the traffic light praying she would die before I got to the vet..and she went to sleep forever...spared her of a hopeless ordeal...

I know that nothing anyone can say can really do justice to the grief you must be going through.

We lost our Jack Russel (16yrs) about 6 weeks ago and it was the hardest thing ever had to go through. We had him put to sleep and it's been difficult to replace those harrowing memories of his last moments with the good memories from the years he'd been with us.

Gradually though things are improving.... feelings of sadness, guilt, empathy etc are waning and apart from the odd moments, we now remember the good stuff.

It's hard... you have our sympathies. Good luck

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know and understand the deep loss and the broken heart too well. I'm so very sorry to hear of your devastating loss of little Smalls. It always seems so unfair when they are taken so young. You are left with a big hole in your hearts and you still have the love you used to give to her, only she is no longer here to receive that love.

When I have lost one of my own pups, the only way I could heal and even begin to feel better was to welcome a new little soul into my home, and into my heart where there was more than enough room and an abundance of love to shower on her. I felt God had other plans for my baby and that He needed me to care for another who is still of this Earth, but needing the love and care I still had to give. Getting another Yorkie is the only thing that even began to heal the hurt and pain I felt from my loss.

Some folks talk about being unable to replace their beloved pup, and I agree, one can never replace a Yorkie, as they are all so different. Finding a replacement is impossible.

I decided I would not be replacing my pup, but adding a new life (or new to me as I adopted and older pup... actually four older pups) to my then empty house. I just knew in my heart that my pup who had passed would never want me to be that sad over her, but would instead want me to continue to live and enjoy living, and not to waste the love I still had in my heart, but to share it with one in need, and to keep her in my heart forever, which is where her memory lives on, until we meet again.

I wish you and your family Godspeed through your journey of grief and heartache over the loss of little Smalls. But know that she is not lost, she is and will always be in your hearts until you meet again. I pray that God helps your family through the excrutiating pain you are feeling from her parting, but rest assured she is in Good Hands and is at Peace.

RIP Little Smalls. Know that your family has Great Love for you and that you will be dearly missed.

I had the same issue with my Toffee - although she was 15-1/2 it didn't help at all - my husband and I drove over to the vet, and I just kept saying - they will fix her - they told me she was having trouble and in distress and would not recover. I had to hold her while he administered the injection and she died in my arms - my heart was breaking - and still is now to talk about it. I do have 2 new furbabies - and I love them both with all my heart - they have made me very happy - I hope it goes well for you - it is very hard as they are our babies

this has made me very sad and Yes, brought me to tears, a lot of crying. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I can't imangine how terrible this has to be. It also scares me. My shih tzu also has the reverse sneezing attacks, she is only 2 yrs old. The sound is like she is breathing /inhaleing but not exhaleing. So it is a terrible sounding noise. But it does not last . If Miely ever subcombed to this breathing issue then I do not know if I could handle this well at all. Just reading your experience with smalls makes it frightning. And so sad. I can only think that Smalls is not suffering anymore.
