| I am soooooo hoping this girl doesnt join YT and find some of whats been put on here... what a lovely welcome for her! How unfair to say she is 'dumb' and probably has no idea how to look after a dog?? I would never want to be that judgemental of someone that i had met for a few minutes in a shopping mall, unless of course they said or did something really offensive. A lot of the problem is vets give very differing advise, i was told that i was fine to take Buddy out at 7 weeks aslong as he wasnt put on the ground and that it was good for a puppy to start socialising early, but thats just what MY vet said and i'm sure others may well of said something different, its exactly the same when you come to what age should you have a puppy some people are horrified by anything under 12 weeks others say 7 weeks and up is fine, it all depends on who you are talking to and what their personal opinions are. I would say that Buddy is one of the most tolerant and friendly puppies you could ever meet and he was brought home at 7 weeks and yes he was taken out in my arms at 7 weeks (although ok.... not to a shopping mall) I have found YT to be a mass of information in helping me with any problems and in caring for Buddy please lets not make it a place to have a go at people we dont even know, if only we all tried this maybe our whole world would be a better place to live in ..jmo x

Unfortunately, as we have learned on here, not every breeder gives the best advice and it sounds like she "just got" the puppy and it was a weekend so she probably hadn't taken it to the vet yet to get the good advice on how fragile these little ones are. A good breeder would not have let that puppy go before 12 weeks, imo. I agree with you completely. | |

I would also assume that if she did purchase from a pet store, that she probably had done no research online regarding yorkies or she would have known that she shouldn't support mall pet stores and puppy mills. If she did no online research and only had the knowledge from the pet store, she would have no idea what dangers she was subjecting her poor pup to. IMO - of course

| Your right and it has happened in the past that a breeder that was commented on came to the forum. She isn't stupid but definitely uninformed of the danger she is putting her pup through.

| After 2 months of age I have been taking Mya pretty much everywhere. She is well adjusted, not afraid of people or other animals or noises. She will be a good therapy dog. As a former foster mother to dogs I was shocked to see small purebread dogs given up. The reason, they were not socialized when they were young. It takes time and effort to get these little dogs to stop growling, nipping and barking at every little thing but it can be done. It would been better for the dog if it was just exposed to more people, places and things. There are also people that already have dogs at home that get a puppy. The other dogs go out and in and the puppy is fine. I do think it is a good warning to becareful about germs when a pup is so young but once it is safe I think it is good thing to take the dog out in public.

I was trying to say that young people look up to stars they see in movies or a music video and want to do what they see. Not saying that the star or who ever is not taking care of thier pup. These young people are seeing how cute the little pups are and they want one. I know some young people that have small puppies and they don't have a clue on what it takes to care for them. But if you ask them why did they get a puppy that small the reply is " I saw Lil Kim's video and she had one and I thought I would look cute." Now remember these are teens I know and I'm not saying all teens are this way just a few "I know". I just would like them to do their research 1st before making a comment they might not be ready to take on and to get a puppy for all the right reasons and not because they seen someone in a video and thought they would look cute. I hope I said this right and if I stepped on toes I am sorry that was not my plan.

| This is a very touchie subject. The puppy in my oponion was way too young to be at the mall. I did alot of research before getting my baby. I read lots of books, did alot of research on the computer, and talked to quite a few breeders that were kind enough to answer my questions. Before I even brought my baby home, just like my human babies, I was prepared with with the things I was going to need. Not everyone does these things before getting a new puppy. But we have no right calling them names. If it were me, I would have went up to the young lady and told her the dangers of having the pup in public places and give her tips on how to care for her new baby. I gratefully accept advice coming from experienced yorkie owners and learn new things all the time. I would also tell her about YT and tell her that there is alot of information on how to care for her yorkie. Not all people want to hear what you have to say and you can usually tell who these people are. So all we can do is hope and pray that this person will care and love and do right by this new precious life. I JUST LOVE THIS SITE!!!

Also I would hope that not all judge 18-19 year olds as being irresponsible. I was married at 18 worked full time to my hubby through university and was responisble pet owner. Both of my children were very responsible at the age of 18. Both held jobs and did well at school and helped me with my foster dogs. When there was a poll of age of members here most were yonger. I just don't like to stereotype people even when it comes to age.
