Some people weigh the risks and decide to let their dogs roam free in the house...and others would rather keep them completely free from harm in their crate. Also, crates can be very useful for potty-training. I personally don't keep Wobie in a crate, only confined to a few rooms, but I understand why the many people who love their babies do crate them. Do you really think that the people here on YT would crate their yorkies if the yorkies felt they were in prison?

IMO a crate is not at all a prison if it is used correctly. It is a safe place and den for dogs, puppies and adults alike. I know that if I leave the house with the dogs having free run they get very anxious and almost overwhelmed and will whine. If they are crated they snuggle right in and fall asleep or play with some toys and are calm and relaxed until I get home.

aw, I'm sorry to hear...we all say things out of anger that we absolutely do not mean. I hope she is in that category. Plus, people who don't love dogs have a hard time understanding.

I don't like to leave Squeaky no more than 3 - 4 hours at a time either. He is accustomed to going outside every 3 - 4 hours and I am very blessed to have In-Laws that love him as much as we do. My husband and I made the decision several years ago for me to stay home with Squeaky - we're not rich or anything and we have a pretty strict budget - but it's been worth it. I have always had big dogs - Labradors and German Shepherds - and Squeak is my first baby. I think if they were to get a Yorkie, they'd fully understand why we're so "Ga-Ga" over them. All small dogs are precious but the Yorkie's have always held a special place in my heart. Squeaky isn't a full bred Yorkie, he's half Yorkie and half Shih Tzu - but he looks, acts and is medically like his Dad, who was a Yorkie. If I can figure out how to put pictures on here, I'll put one on. He's black all over and when he's in the sun, you can see the brownish hue in his coat. He has to lay on my computer station desk when I'm on the computer. He's laid here today for a little over an hour with me. He loves his "Mommie!"
