This really HURT me This past week I just had sort of a conflict with my 25 yr old neice.......She told me that she thinks that it is stupid that I dont want to leave my dogs alone at home in their cages for more than 3 hrs at a time....and that she thinks that I have NO LIFE because of the way I care for my dogs. We are very close and I previously had NO idea that she had felt this way, and I was just so so hurt that she had said that. Like she thinks I am really weird because of it..... I dont know...............does anyone elses family members or friends give them a hard time about how they treat their babies...... |
Awe! My family doesnt give me a hard time but I feel for you! I have a rule! I do not leave Jasper in his crate alone more than 4 hours ever so you are better than me!:aimeeyork You are a wonderful yorkie mom! |
Yes most of my family feels that way about me, especially my sister who hates dogs and animals in general. At first it bothered me but I realize I used to be just like her. I couldnt understand why people were that way with their dogs until I got my yorkies and my whole frame of mind changed. Instead of being angry with them or hurt, I actually feel kinda sorry for them that they are missing out on the unconditional love that we get from our dogs. IT is something that needs to be experienced before it can be understood I think. IT does kinda make me mad whenever she asks me how my mutts are doing tho. |
you are right she has no manners or sence Quote:
put on a happy face you have family here jg and Tede |
LOL!! I'm sorry. I know that must have hurt you, but you what, we feel that if people do not like our dogs they can stay home. This is their house too. We have missed vacations and alot of things. When my little schnauzer was sick with diabetes, we had to give 2 shots a day, right on time. His food had to be on time. I do not regret one day of taking care of him and without going into details it takes alot of dedication to have a special needs dog. I would do it all over again. These are like our children and if people or family do not understand, well then they just have to not understand. The older I get I could care less what people think. Just try not to worry about it. There are alot of people out there that are not animal lovers and to me thats their loss. |
Awww thanks hun, at least Im not alone.......and its not like Im the only one in my house.....between myself, my husband and my 2 kids....I CAN stay out for more than three hrs. at a time....she made it sound like I NEVER was away for more than 3 hrs and that I didnt have a life outside of that! errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....I dont know what makes people THINK they know exactly what you do on your own time. |

I'm sorry she said that. It was so rude of her. But then again, some people just don't understand the love that we have for our furbabies. I know that they hinder me from having a "carefree" life, and to be able to go here and there and everywhere, without planning.. but honestly they mean so much to me that I gladly make the sacrifice. Some people just can't understand making those kinds of life changes for "just a dog".. and to them I say "your loss"! :) |
My parents, sister, and granddaddy don't really understand Lacy being like a child to me but they do know I love her very much. I don't like to leave Lacy at home for more than 5 hours (and I don't like leaving her that long but I'm in class for 4 hours at a time in the afternoons). I try to take her with me everywhere I can and won't go do things some times because I want to be with her. I've only been on one vacation without her and worried about her the whole time. Some people can't understand the love we have for our dogs because they've never felt it - and it's hard for us to understand why they don't love dogs like we do. I would never let anyone make me feel bad about loving my dog and treating her like I do - everyone is "wierd" to someone because everyone is different. So I've learned that I just can't really care what others think about me because some will agree with me and think I'm "normal" and some will disagree with me and think I'm "wierd". All I know is I'm happy with my life and that is all that matters |
Most of my family understands and they don't say anything, at least not to me. But, I do sometimes get a comment about how I'm such a homebody and that Jake would be just fine alone. Well, I PREFER to stay home most of the time, and I don't like to leave Jake alone for more than a couple hours. If that's what I prefer to do, then no one else should be bothered by it, that's my spin on it. |
Awww sweetie :( I can understand how bad that must make you feel. Especially since you never knew that she was thinking these things. Does your niece own dogs? I think sometimes people who aren't big "dog" people, or people who don't own dogs, don't really understand how we truly feel about them. Also, some people see their dogs as just "DOGS" - however, I think most would agree with me when I say that to US (YT members) we see them as OUR BABIES. Some people just DO NOT understand that. And that is ok. I actually feel sorry for THEM because they will not ever know how WONDERFUL it is to truly love an animal SO MUCH. Just keep your chin up sweetie. Let others think what they will. It doesn't matter :) You love your babies, and they love you - that's all that counts! |
P.S. - My babies and I are sending you a BIG hug! |
I feel bad for you...that was mean and hurtful..my familiy KNOWS how much my dogs mean to me...they also know not to even try to change my mind..my dogs rank right up there next to my children so saying something mean and hurtful about the way I love them would be equal to saying I care to much about my own children..tell her that one.. Dawn |
It sounds to me like your niece is jealous of the time you give to your fur baby. She may have had a bad day, and was afraid you were to involved to pay attention to her. People that don't have this deep bond with a dog don't realize it works both ways. We get the same devotion and love from them that we give to them. If loving and caring for a little creature that relies on you for its very life is weird, I wish more of us were weird. There is no where that I have more fun than with my sawyer. I go other places, because my husband, children and grandchildren share my life too; but if I were to be completely honest, the most fun I have and the times I feel most complete are the times I spend with sawyer. So, you are not weird, just complete.;) |
Some of my family understands and others don't. Some can't stand the thought of a dog in the house. What they don't realize is they aren't just dogs, they are part of our family! It's always the people that don't have furry family members that never understand. If they would give them just one hour of their time they would understand. Most of my family does think that their clothes are cute. I live in such a small dirty town that my dogs dress better than 80% of the kids walking around. Which is pretty sad. |
