| 70-75% of dogs are not returned I write for a newspaper and today I received this press release. I am anxious to learn more about the product. (I will not be doing a story about this - as it is not my beat) I went to their web site but apparently it's still in the works - the web site is www.koogapet.com - hopefully it's up soon. Here's the press release - minus the contact info for the PR guy who sent it: Approximately 95-97% of cats and 70-75% of dogs are not returned to their home after being lost each year, according to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). In an effort to dramatically increase the safe return of these lost pets, KoogaPet is launching a new, state-of-the-art USB Tag and data system to assist pet owners, breeders and veterinarians. KoogaPet is the first comprehensive pet data system created that combines a secure portable medical information site, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, lost pet recovery system and pet care instructions. Using the world’s smallest, non-invasive tag (equivalent to the size of a dime), this web site and pet data system have been created and designed by veterinarians and animal health care professionals for high-tech functionality and ease of use. Would you be interested in learning more before KoogaPet is announced? I can set up interviews with KoogaPet and Veterinarians.

| I have both of my dogs microchipped by HomeAgain. I know that this company gives scanners to all humane societys, shelters, and vet offices for free. I hope that if someone ever (God forbid) wanted to keep my dogs, they would take them to the vet and the vet would be able to read my information from the microchip. Am I being naive to think that a vet would look into this information? |

| The only problem with the microchip is that vets aren't required to scan every new dog that comes into their practice. If someone wants to give you your dog back the chip is great. But if someone wants to keep your dog...they are not going to tell the vet they found the dog... I think it should be mandatory that all vets scan all new patients...just to be sure the names on the chip and the present owner match. |

My furkids Donating Member | I think this is a great idea for honest people. Most of the Yorkies that are missing have been stolen and are either being sold or used a fight bait (MAKES ME SICK!) I know if I ever found ANY animal I would try to find the owner, have it scanned, call the police and animal control but that is me. I don't know how many people would actually do this (of course all of us on here would) but, in the real world how many people do you actually think would bring a stray Yorkie in to have it scanned so it could be returned...especially where they aren't the cheapest little things...JMO.
