| why do people need this pardon my stupidness. but why do people need this. Are you asking because of what it does. I dont know about this. i guess people dont like the barking so they silents a dog??? Isnt it like declawing a cat. it takes away its little defence? I hate that my dog barks sometimes un -controllable. But I figure its my fault for not knowing how to train him . not his...and we now have a trainer.he also likes to bite(that really pisses me off). does that mean people think his teeth should come out. he also poops in the house sometimes. So we should sew up his little whole? I dont get the fact that dogs are the problem and should be quiet. I think may be people are the problem. I know i'm one of them sorry jg |

| many if not all yt'rs are adamantly against debarking (as am i). it's a very cruel practice. did you meet someone who had it done or recommended it? i noticed you said you'd never done it... if someone recommended it to you, then maybe they should be debarked!! |

| I just had never heard of it before and I dont really know what they do... we are working with Roxie to train her not to bark, and our vet recommended this to us. I told him I wasnt comfortable with it and was going to look up some information on it. Thanks though for your opinions... I see that everyone feels the same. |

| I do not know anyone who has done this. I could never do this and think it pretty cruel. If you think about it, would we want someone taking out our voicebox so we could not talk. Think about how said an animal would be. I would just be devastated. If someone can't stand the barking ect, then in my opinionthey should not have a dog.

| My dogs are barkers and I would never even consider this for them. We have had a breakthrough with them by putting them in time out when they bark. We have our xpen by the door and when someone comes to the door and they bark we put thm in there. They have stopped their frenzy barking. We dont put them in if they bark at a cat and if they bark at someone in the window. Only when they barrk at someone at the door. They are dogs and you have to expect a dog to do some barking

| I do not recommend this procedure as barking is a means of communication for dogs with their masters as well as with other dogs. Unless there is a medical reason such as cancer, tumors, etc., this procedure is purely for the reasons of a human not wanting to hear barking. A very poor excuse to have it done! This is a little off topic but shows why removing vocal cords is done sometimes on animals: I watched a documentary on wound healing from burns and the experimentation was being performed on pigs. They removed the vocal cords to prevent the squealing the pigs would have done when being experimented on. I saw this in my youth and I am an oldie goldie now and things may have changed with regard to pig experiments BUT............they were doing the test on pigs for burns and the healing process and care of burn wounds by purposely burning them without any sedation and observing them. It was one of the worse things I have ever seen in my life and still to this day, I can invision these experiments even though it was a short segment. I feel sick just thinking about it.
